Somehow this escaped my attention until today when I stopped off for an EggMuffin meal. So I am sipping on the Coke and approach my left turn home. A 120 degree left turn over two lanes of traffic at 15mph.

Coke in my left hand. Steering wheel in my right hand. Both feet available but unhelpful. YIKES! My first indication there might be something amiss the car was still if 5th gear. THAT never happened before! Then Arnold Swartzenegger grabbed the steering wheel from some hidden place under the dash.

Did not leave the road but it was not a pretty picture. But motored away in 5th gear as if driving a Linclon 5.0. I still believe that should not be possible.

Back in the years when these cars where built, driving was a full time job when sitting behind the steering. No time to drink and drive or eat. Today is very different. When you drive you can talk on the phone while drinking and also texting you friends. If you are unattentive there are some proximity sensors that tells you it's time to brake.

Time to park! No problem just hit a button and the car do it for you. If you're so bad a driver that you loose control the traction control, abs brakes and all the correction devices take over you to control the situation. Ho! I forgot that nice little voice that tells you were to turn and how much time and distance you will arrive. What a pleasure it is to drive a sport car.

And if you're SO bad that you loose it all, no problem!! You're all covered with air bags.

Yes I think they should at least put a cup older in our old cars ;-)

You have hidden cup holders in a coupe. Simply pop out the back two a/c vents out and ta-da cupholders

Hey yeah! I tried to poke them open when I first got in the car without success. But I just won't get a Coke with my next EggMcmuffin!

They pop out pretty easy and fit even 30oz soda well. With the A/C or heat on you have temperature controlled drinks. Once again Ferrari way out in front on thinking ahead!

My own inattentiveness led to the stability control on my Caddy CTS throwing me upside down and backwards over a 15 ft cliff. I already knew the stability control was trouble. The car did some weird things just over pot holes. Even Consumer Report mentioned the sudden intervention.

But I had a ruined tire and while awaiting replacement swapped out with a full set of older set sitting in the basement. I knew the handling had changed but did not fully appreciate the stability control would suddenly controlled by space aliens. I swept around a left turn with a bit of tail out.

The car did not want the tail out. As best as I can determine it hard-commanded the right rear brake to damn near lock up. That reversed the rotation to such a violent extent the car counter rotated, placed a lot of lateral force on that tire, which then separated from the rim as the car rolled.

It was a relatively slow speed wreck. None of the two thousand air bags deployed. But every single surface of the car came into contact with fixed objects of one kind or another. I remember calmly watching trees fly by upside down and thinking: "I'm going to need a complete new paint job."

And getting out of a seat belt upside down was something new as well. And of course the door did not open. Luckily the electric window still worked so crawled out that way. Stability controls have greatly improved? At least that is my understanding. The Ferrari has stability control. Thats ME.

PS: That CTS had its own cellular phone number and would call me at inopportune times. For instance, 7,500 rpms at 80mph. I did not take the call. But judging from other such occurances the GM 'Mothership" had detected something out of its algorythm.

So I called GM and explained their company should not call me on the cars cell phone while I am at 7,500 rpm. They sent me $2,000 complimentary 'good will' is the best way I can explain it. But I tracked down the damned black box. Tore it out by the roots and flung it under the portch.

That nanny box did not include the satanic stability control.

In my old age and advanced state of decline I do not clearly remember. I know I started in second. Perhaps used my right leg to get fifth? But its a damned good question. But all of that had many seconds to accomplish. The hard 120 degree left turn used up but three seconds.

Although I can attest it seemed much longer....

I find it best to have a passenger with at least one free hand when attempting to consume beverages in Mondials. A quick "Here/Hold" has worked on several occasions.

Ah yes. But after only two wives I am now a hermit. Not only cheaper but much less agrivation. In the old days they said to use salt peter to immunize oneself from women. Never really tried that. But in older age I have sworn off Cialis.

My 3.2 coupe came with a plastic "foldable" cup holder. The PO installed it on the driver's side wheel well wall. When I first saw it, I had no idea what it was – thought it might be something to do with the stereo. But he explained he got tired of not having a place to put his drink!

I find that it is very practical to have it, and have used it many times. The only downside is that it gets in the way when getting into or out of the car, if it's in the "down" position. And yes, I've also heard of the 2 cupholders in the back vents, but haven't needed them.

I had a cupholder made up to sit in the area right behind the coinholder. Board member here made it up. I use velcro so I can take it out if desired.

I will snap a pic later when I am with the car.

    Regards,
    Jerry

Wal mart has a little plastic drink holder for two cups and a cell phone. It slides between the console and seat so all you do is pull it out and throw it in the trunk when not in use. I'll try to get a picture for you

Guys...Guys!! Dont you know it is never good to drink while driving? Take your Mondial out, find a wonderful place to stop for your favorite beverage where you can admire your car while finishing your libation. Then continue en route. It provides a great excuse to go for a drive (as if we need one). And there are never any spillage related problems.

Holy (...) that's brilliant, Jerry! Fits perfectly! I'd still be so afraid of getting my seats dirty that I'd finish any beverage very still and outside.

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.
