But this one is different; 1982 Mondial with a basket case motor.

What's the most you'd pay? And then, what would you do with it afterwards?

The car is about 1/2 hour from me but so far the seller hasn't replied.

    ZFFAD08A0C0039165

BTW, I called the FL DMV about the lack of title and the following documents are required:

    -Notarized Bill of Sale
-Registration papers from the previous State

Otherwise it cannot be registered within Florida

No engine/engine in place, aftermarket sound speakers and radio, center console disassembled, documents missing... Considering the prices at which Mondials are being sold in the US, I'd say 5k tops.

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.

Yes, it's sad. A couple of burned out 308s recently sold for almost $20K.

    Interesting price indeed!

The seller called; he recently bought an auto repair facility and this car had been sitting under a tarp in the back corner for quite a few years. Package deal.

He says the registrations papers are in the glovebox.

    Wade,

If you don't mind me asking, how do you feel about that Mondial? Are you inclined to pull the trigger? What do you make of it? The owner seems pretty straightforward regarding the current state the car is in. Three pieces of information that I particularly liked, if they are indeed true: 1 owner + rust-free + no accidents.

One thing: having a second glance at the photos you posted, is it just me or the car is somehow raised? Seems to be a lot of room between the wheels and the arches.

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.

Its normal to be raised with the weight of the drive train removed.
There is a 3.0 Qv for sale quite reasonably that might make more sense than rebuilding perhaps. (missing parts, something catastrophic to rebuild engine)

There's a running green 8 for sell in the trades for 16K

It a shame that the market is so low in the US

if i was in tow range it would be my project car for under 6 - 7 K

get a lien sale from the shop

Here in Los Angeles on Craig's List there is a great looking silver 82 Mondial with a red interior, and chrome wheels at $18k. I bet he would be willing to go way down on price.

What are your plans with it? I have been trying in vain to find two rear axle/hub assemblies for my 81 mondial. If you get it, and want to part it out, I would love dibs on the hubs!

I emailed this guy about the car as a whole. I think he said it was an interior fire, but overall seemed like a real person/car

When I first saw the ad it was from my phone (mobile version webpage) so I didn't see all of the photos. So my thought was for a family project; my son-in-law and brother-in-law live nearby. But after seeing the exploded view (motor) I'm going to pass. Just too time consuming although it would be fun anyway.

Regarding the "lifted" look, Dave is correct i.e. removing the engine and trans will do that.

That's a great color combo... too bad this one wasn't the same. Or Verde Tenue! :)

Since it comes with the engine I would go 7 but that would be my very top end of the rainbow offer. I would sell the engine and put a 3.2 in it.

And as far as the market goes I'm very surprised that the Mondial still hasn't followed the 308 seems prices here are still pretty low comparatively speaking.

Another way to go with this car would be to put a 355 motor with a 6 speed in it, that would be an interesting project.

The 400 was neglected for years but finally it's becoming recognized for what it is, a classic luxury GT, with a V-12 and a Ferrari to boot.

The Mondial (8 - 3.2) is the last affordable Ferrari (to buy and own, especially for the DIYer).

To my fellow Owners, enjoy! :)

What's a burned valve? That's the big question with this one. Best case a valve snapped, somebody popped off the head, saw maybe a punctured cylinder, took the bottom half apart and had to stop there some other reason. My fear would be they stopped there b/c it needs head work, new cyl sleeves, pistons, valves and then it sat for 10 yrs. I think they'd mention if they had new parts included-but I also think this would be running if they bought the parts 10 yrs ago

Hmmm..... $3800 for the engine. Throw in another $1200 for service parts, $500 for shipping (not sure if this is realistic). $2000 for new tires. Assume the tranny and diff is still good. Assume no other missing parts.

    Car: $4500
    Shipping: $1500
    Engine: $3800
    Shipping: $500
Engine Service: $1500 (new belts, plugs, etc.)
Misc Parts $2000 (fudge factor - there are going to be "missing parts").

    Total: $13800
Assuming want to make it street legal in texas - inspection, registration, taxes: $1000.

    Total about: $14800.

Almost forgot New Tires: $2K (I'm assuming it still has the metric wheels).

17K to get it operational and street legal.

If you were going to flip it, what would it be worth? 20K? That would be a 3K Profit.

On the other hand, it would make a great father/son project to build a track car!

I showed this to my wife, whom promptly threatened removal of various body parts (mine). No new projects allowed, unless I finish the other ones.

Exactly...buy the 3.0 QV for sale from our fellow Mondial bro for $3800
Then perhaps the deal makes sense.

If you could get a 348 engine/transaxle on the cheaper side (good luck) you could put that in there like the Mondial T....then sell the good parts from the 308 engine/transaxle

I remember reading modial T's have a subframe in the back end...do all Mondial's or is the architecture very different for the T? If it's very different the 348 engine might be more pain than it's worth

Yup, you know I saw that one also! That's a steal and I'm surprised nobody picked it up yet. I would have drive over there with cash and made an offer if it was a little closer.

That engine would be going into a 75 GT4 while I take my time changing out it's sodium filled valves to steel. I should have done it years ago but I can't shake the feeling that the dude that owned it before me did it already-he did everything else

Modifications would have to be made to put in a 348 or 355 motor it definitely wouldn't be the financial savvy way to go but it would be an interesting project.
The T started in 89 and was basically the same drivetrain layout as the 348 the idea was to have the engine placed lower in the car for better handling I believe that was the case others feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

It's been said that the 348 has a Mondial t motor in it. ;)

But as you say, an enormous undertaking to put a t drivetrain in an earlier Mondial. For starters; transverse motor vs. a longitudinal motor, and everything that goes with them (completely different subframes).
