I know I'm not at the right place but I wanted to let my Mondial friend's (mainly Mike and Ted) know that I finallly bought a Mercedes SL. I was after a R107 or R129 and I bought a good exemple Canadian car TODAY. A 1991 R129. I'm just back from my over 600km purchase trip with it and I love it.

Congrats Claude! They are wonderful cars, I had a smoke silver 1996 SL320 back in 1998! Comfy ride, solid like a tank! Back then I was single and 27, the car attracted alot of attention with the ladies :) Cant wait to see the pics!

    Cheers

    Nice Claude

Good luck with it. I am still waiting to see Sera at a local car meet. The new owner is less than 10 miles away from me, and I've met him out in his 914.

R129 are lovely cars. They are a lot more sports car than most people realize.

Keep an eye on the hydraulic fluid, as long as topped up, top works fine.

    Regards,
    Jerry

Jerry, there is allready a hydraulic leak that i need to fix. The seller told me on the first call.
And yes these a real sports cars. I was amazed by it's power and what a road handling car it is.

The car needs lot of TLC but the price was right and is a solid base to start with.

Mike, I'm still waiting for the T coupe owner to call me when he's back from Florida. I will then see if I buy or not.

MB builds a great car. I own a '15 S55. But they will never match the mystique of a Prancing Horse. That said, nice car Claude. Hope you enjoy it.

Benz are great cars. My wife and I have taken a liking to the W123 style - in particular the 5 cyl turbo diesel. Built like a tank. It's one of those MBs that when you drive it - it makes you feel like you're on top of the world. Even more so than driving a late model S-Class.

In fact, 2-3 years ago, we bought a nearly pristine W123 from another Fchat member here. This was before I bought my Mondial.

If you are gonna have a euro car collection, a Benz should be right in there with the others (BMW, Ferrari, Lambo, BMW - even VW). (I'm still working on my collection).

Over the past many decades, we've owned many Benzs. All good (great) cars, with the exception of a 1985 190D. that one had a few too many problems.

Heard the 600's are a maintenance nightmare so prob better with a 500.
I'm sure the power is more than adequate as I had a S500 in the 90's and even with all the extra weight of a 4-door it was quick so I can image a 2-door is plenty quick.
Always loved that style, it is timeless and a real beauty!
    Cheers Claude,
    Greg

I heard the 600 is a good motor but I'm a little scarred too bout the maintnance. I see the SL600 more like a collector piece and I wanted a driver. If I would buy a 600 it would have to be a perfect exemple but the 500 I have is a driver that need TLC. The perfect car for what I need.
