    So I'm looking at an 82 QV here in Australia, and a lot of the photos online are of later models and I can't seem to see what's original on this car and what isn't. There's not a lot of history that I have found on this particular car so far - is there anywhere which is known as a good repository of information about the Mondial that I can read from start to finish?

    If it's an 82 it is a mondial 8. The q.v. didn't start until 83

    It has got a Quattrovalvole ID plaque though. How else can I tell?

    From the info I've seen it's true that the first QV imported in the US was an '83.

    https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/136406537-post18.html

    However, the VIN for this UK car decodes to QV as well.

    "The 6th & 7th digit identify to specific model: 14 = Mondial QV Coupe"

    "The 10th digit designates the model year and is used only on Ferraris manufactured for the North American and some Middle East markets. On cars for other markets this will always be a "0" (zero) except for Japan where it sometimes will be a "P" or "N"."

    https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/137720645-post7.html

    US spec cars have the year and month of manufacture on their VIN plates. I don't remember how the cars for the other markets are determined. Year first registered?

    Regarding the question about a "good repository of information", while a bit time-comsuming, here at FerrariChat is the best. Just try the search function.

    Another great source is the book, Original Ferrari V8 by Keith Bluemel.

    Also, get with Paul Chua. He has a website loaded with scanned Mondial-related documents.

    If you have specific questions about originality just post the photos here as there are plenty of folks who are willing to help out.

    Hi,
    You could post pictures of the car here so we can take a look. There are very clear differences between an "8" interior and a QV interior that are easy to see at a glance, just for starters. Pics of the rest of the car as well?
    You can also run the VIN through Carfax to confirm date.

    I knew I should have taken more photos of the car when I went to inspect it!
    Here's an exterior shot.
    Not a fan of the 360 wheels in that they're too modern for the car... but they're starting to grow on me.
    Front tyres circa 2000.

    And don't forget to download the appropriate Owner's Manual. Or both (8 and QV) for comparisons...

    I believe Mondial 8 and QV overlapped in 1982, so an 82 car sounds legitimate.
    360 wheels aren't cheap. Worst case, sell them for good money and get something you like. Good luck with the purchase (if you decide to get it).

    Hopefully this answers some of your concerns assuming the VIN is from the correct car.
    VIN Decoded: Z FF L D 14 C 0 0 0 044135

    Z = Italy
    FF = the Ferrari marques manufactured by Ferrari SpA.
    L = 308 4-valve European + 512 TR European
    D = front 3-point inertia belts; rear 3-point inertia belts
    14 = Mondial Quattrovalvole Coupe
    C = UK (right-hand drive)
    0 = this number will be a zero on vehicles built for markets outside of USA
    O = NOT USED
    0 = Maranello, Italy
    044135 = production number

    I think the mirrors were done in red after leaving the factory but if I'm wrong on that someone please correct me. I've always thought QV's existed in 82, just not in the US until 83. So that would add up for the OP's car.

    Body-color painted mirrors are/were surely post-production. I haven't seen or heard of any evidence to the contrary.

    But then again, every car wasn't photo-documented like they are today. ;)

    Are they interchangeable?

    Are there any other ways to visually determine if the engine is correct?

    .

    The early QV had the 8 plenum. The factory must have used up all the supplies before switching over.

    Is there a lot of overspray on the outside from a recent paint job? The side vent screens look red, as does some of the bumper.

    Needs quite a bit of TLC, no?

    It does. It definitely does not present well.
    I'm budgeting for a full respray to bring it back to its former glory.

    The bumper is black... I blame JPEG artifacting for inducing colours.
    Side vents are red. But don't they come colour coded?

    Yes, the vents themselves are supposed to be body color on the QV. But the screens behind them I recall being black.

    Just echoing everyone else's comments. Everything looks right for a QV but the plenum, but if the early versions had the 8 plenum, then there you have it.

    Ps- My 2c, I'd replace the wheels!

    Every Euro QV Mondial that I've come across has had the black plenum.

    P.S - The interior center console is definitely a QV interior. The "8"s had the radio at the base of the console.

    I agree - too big and too modern/curved. I think a set of 348 wheels, or even some period-correct BBS rims would do the car much justice.

    Yeah, whoever "fixed" it in the past didn't do a good job - they put the steering wheel back on in the wrong side...

    Hi, my 1983 UK model QV has the black plenum that doesn't have Quattrovalvole written on it. Actually, the plenum on mine was originally black but all the paint has worn off so it is just alluminium coloured now like the one in the photo. So yours looks ok to me. My chassis number is 45157 so a bit newer than yours but still with a Mondial 8 style plenum.

    There is a code on the engine that will identify it as a QV or an 8.

    Finally, yours has the correct centre console for a QV with the radio behind the gearlever instead of in front of the gearlever as on a Mondial 8.
