I have a 1988 1/2 Mondial 3.2, and I am removing the steering rack for refurbishment & replacement of the plastic part. (Really, $80,000 for a car that has a plastic component in the steering system?). I have all brackets, tie rod ends, and an interior coupling removed already, but I cannot seem to get the system free of the column inside of the car. There doesn't seem to be enough wiggle room between the cylindrical part of the rack and the front sway bar to get it out.
Anyone done this already that may have some advice? (BTW, I did watch an excellent 8 minute youtube video on removing a 308 rack, and it was the same procedure up to the place where I am currently having my dilemma.)
    Many thanks!

I don't know the answer, but the obvious question is how hard is it to remove the front sway bar on one side?

    Regards,

Well, removing the sway bar is not guaranteed to create enough space. And sway bars are almost always under load, which means they are a mammy to get bolted back where they belong.
    Nobody has done this before?

You gents are correct!!! The sway bar came off easily (at least on the driver's side). I hope to have that sob out by tomorrow evening.
    Any other helpful hints? Thanks!

Plastic is more light then any metal. Ferrari took everything out of the closet to make the 32 as light weighted as possible as more and more stuff was put on then prior models. However they could have done more in its weightness IMHO, but on the other hand it stays a GT and not a 3x8 :)

Nice work David! Could you share us some pics? :D

Pics? I will try. Most of the components needed for removal are in tight quarters, but we'll see.
