I got a new toy for XMAS - a DJI Phantom 3 Quadcopter Drone.

What a cool, amazing piece of technology.

And, now that my car is back together (leather restoration), and the weather here in Texas is so nice (73f and sunny), I decided to combine my 2 favorite toys - Mondial and Drone for a little areal photography.

Have you ever seen a Mondial from 150ft up?

I also experimented with video, but that didn't come out so well. I'm still learning to fly and film at the same time. However, the drone has a cool feature called "follow me". This weekend I'm going to attempt to get the drone to follow the Mondial for some areal "action" shots.

Anyway - enjoy the pics. It was a lot of fun filming.

Cool pictures and have fun with both toys.
I got a Gopro for Xmas, but still no complete Mondial to play with both.

Where is everybody? I don't think there is a car park in England that empty.

    Hahaha

I was thinking the same. We don't even got a parking lot that close to 'the middle of nowhere'. But I can assume that the area51 building is not on the pics.

It's not an area used unless one of the many leagues has it in use. Normally only on Saturday or Sunday. There's about 10-12 fields in there, with enough parking for participants and fans.

On weekdays, it a great place for joggers, walkers, dog walkers, etc. to use.

Also, since it's lots of open space, there's always guys like me flying hobby aircraft.

Before they put speed bumps in, it was also used for various, not quite legal, car activities. Nothing like an open, large set of parking lots!! Now, at best you (uh...I mean they) can barely get enough space to conduct donut (uh...I mean cornering) activities.

A Mondial is like a shark moving through a sea of bait fish (other cars).

Perhaps, if I can figure out how to adequately film video from the drone, I'll get one of my kids to overlay the theme from Jaws on it!!

The drone has a follow me function! I have visions of me cruising through traffic, with the drone following and filming!! Add the Jaws theme and that would be one cool video!!

I'll never actually have the courage to use the "follow-me" in traffic, but I do plan to try it on a set of roads in a new neighborhood development (where the streets are complete, but no houses have been started yet).

What great fun. However, if it were me driving that drone? Either I would crash the drone or crash it into the car. I once bought a Radio Shack remote control electric model airplane and it simply got blown a mile away! Never found it...... However, I bought some of the various indoor helicopters and got pretty good at landing them on top of the refridgerator.

I suspect recent models are a bit better.......

Great photos. I love a mondial from above, the wide grille on the bonnet looks so classy.
