Hi. Do we know of anyone that can make a tonneau to order? Is there anywhere to go in the UK/Europe?

I don't know of any Ferrari tonneau cover specialists but I also have a Morgan and there are a number of people who do customised tonneaus. The nearest to you is Melvyn Rutter on 01279 725725/726605. I'm sure they would love the chance to work on a Mondial and they have a fantastic reputation in the Morgan world. There are other companies too so if you're interested (and don't get any suggestions of Ferrari specialists) please pm me. Paul

A tonneau cover is what we Brits call Hank's spider top (a cover for the interior of the car whilst the hood is folded). I saw a thread chasing Hank up on that (I'm also interested in buying one), but not sure we saw a response from Hank.

I think Fred is referring to the boot cover in his post (cover for the hood once folded).

The OEM cover is meant to be used when the top is up, simply to protect the top itself from sun or debris damage. It is poor protection, and poorly designed as far as all the straps and such needed to hold it in place.

Hank's Spidertop can be used with the top up or down and goes on in about 60 seconds.

Unfortunately, Hank is recovering from a serious medical event at this time and we all wish him a speedy recovery.

Tonneau is a French word. I've no idea how it came about to infect our beautiful language but there ya go! It's only for cabrio cars. My manual says the car isn't to be driven with the top down without the tonneau in place. This is true as the wind pressure can lift the hood and damage the frame. I was totally surprised to see you don't use the word "over there". I thought it was generic.

Thanks for all the FB guys. I'll Track some of these leads down.

Email Joe at [email protected]. He advertises in our F Club newsletter and made mine. There may be a thread or two on here from him with more pictures. I didn't like the straps so I added Tanex fasteners to mine. Just unclip the leather boot and tuck it under and clip the cover on. You had to open the trunk and tuck the straps in the joint and close the lid. You can see them in this pic. It's before I added the fasteners. Too cumbersome for my needs. I just wanted something I could throw on really quick if I went to a movie or something and wanted to keep sun off interior. Putting the top up quickly is never an option, LOL.

I have a similar cover for my car. I've only used it once. It looks like you keep the lid permanently down on yours. I did think of that as doing the "hood dance" is a proper PITA. My concern was that keeping it down might spoil the hood material and window by permanently creasing it but I ideally I'd keep the hood down all the time.
