This article and rendering were from the May 85 issue of Road & Track. At first glance, you would think it was a precursor to the 348. But a side by side comparison shows sleeker lines. More like the Mondial. Nothing against the 348, just saying. yup, looks more like a TR IMHO. flying wingmirror vented hood pronounced front wings wheels but cool nontheless, the pics show how close related the 348 and the mondial are.
I was working near Birmingham UK at a consultancy and in 1989-90 they built a cardboard Ferrari(!) Really this was an aluminium structure theoretical proposal, but at the end Ferrari decided they wanted a model not just a load of reports, 3D and drawings. They commissioned a model and cardboard was the easiest to represent aluminium, sprayed silver of course. It was a few months before I started so could not say if it was this project or not. Ferraris @five years thereafter became aluminium in structure I think (please correct me if not so, Im not so well up on other models).
Notice the fender flairs a la Mondial 8 through 3.2 So the drawing was based on the current models at the time and without foresight regarding the Mondial t.
Yes, and based on that, room to stow the top. Unless it was intended to be a low volume Barchetta. Even then, transverse looks right.
IMHO, it is 348 spider. While you might find little clues from other models, all in all it is very close in terms of layout. However, did you cherish the engine spec? Isn't that the 288 GTO, with 2.9 Liter, 4valve, turbo??? cheers braq

What got my attention is the proposed use of lightweight materials. The purpose would have been to lower weight and increase speed. 0-60 might have been 4. something instead of 6's and 7's. They obviously heard the market.
