I love my 85 QV's design. I have come to appreciate all the lines and subtle curves. The integration of the black bumpers with the black line of the rocker panel and even the black of the accent piece around the back edge of the roof line. The wedge look is unique to its era and is what makes our models stand out from the round look of all the supercars from that time on.

However, there is one thing that drives me nuts, the rusted dirty surface of the original muffler that you see from the rear. I do not have or want the "diaper" cover. So of course the only option is to buy a new stainless one as a replacement. I am planning a major overhauls with belts and all in July and spoke with Maurice, my mechanic about ordering a replacement either from Superformance or one of the other more expensive brands.

Maurice said, "Why throw away a good muffler? Do you want it louder? All the stainless ones are louder". And actually no, I think the sound is perfect the way Enzo and the factory made it.

After I told him that he replied, "I can make a stainless steel cover for it and it will look just fine. Of course I will inspect it to make sure it is still in good shape. But why spend an extra 1000 or more Euros (depending on the brand) if I can make it look the same for about 200 Euros."

Well, there you go, a mechanic who is trying to save me money. His garage is a major restorer of cars and they are meticulous in recreating what needs to be done. Also, he is the owner of 3 Fcars himself along with a large number of classic american and english cars. I do trust both his skill and judgement.

So Ok, I'm thinking how would it look and what if I dont like it or it detracts from the design by being obviously clunky looking. I can always then spend the extra 1000 but it would be nice to save it for something else far more important (like a new fuse box).

Opinions please and does anybody else have experience with putting a stainless steel wrap on a regular muffler. What is clear is that I want to do away with the boil on the backside of my beauty.

Here's a pic of how it looks now.

You can paint the exhaust with special heat resistent paint, i did that for my GT4, there the exhaust is even more visible, looks still good after 5 years.

The best 15 Euro spend on the car. You can choose a wide range of colors. This will allways look better then some sort of stainless shield.

Thanks Aero. A more simple, and perhaps, more elegant solution. Now, as to the color...silver, black, red?

Thanks, it is actually a 208, it came with this exhaust, looks much better than the single exhaust with mesh around it. I like the single exhaust in the 208 and 308 GTB's though.
This is the detail of the tips, unfortunately the Ansa labels burnt off in a few hours....

I use oven cleaner with steel wool to clean the stainless cover on the muffler , make sure you use high temp paint too!

Sorry Jurgen for being daft but your after pic, is that the natural effect of your sanding before painting the top, or did you paint the bottom half and put stainless on the top half and it will stay that way.

I'm just ready to start mine and am a bit confused as normal
