doing some spirited driving up on skyline, before I could break the black terror (with white stripe) darted across the road... too late..... The smell was so bad that I thought I would throw up on my way home.. Any advise my friends to get that smell out? I'm afraid to use the hydrogen peroxide, baking soda thing since I don't know if that will hurt the paint. Thanks in advance.
Well that stinks!! For pets, a combination of peroxide and baking soda does the trick....I am assuming that the belly pan took a direct hit? Probably not much down there to worry about in terms of peroxide, which you would dilute regardless. I am sure a quick Google search would yield a recipe that you could spray on... Brock
Be careful if there are any remains of the critter. They do carry rabies. As for the smell, I don't think anything works. Other than time. Although, if you removed your cats, perhaps the smell of unburned gas would overwhelm the other odor? Sid
Thanks All!!! So it hit the front left tire, driver passenger trim, and under tray, part of the problem is that I don't have a lift, I was able to 'clean' it best I could, but there are some parts I can't really check. I talked to a professional detailer, unfortunately he said in the end only time fully removes the smell - he said about 1 - 2 months. ugh... again, thank you for all the replies.
This happen to my dog once, it was late night and I let them out - they chased the critter and then shabbam - full blast. That was rough - had to do the whole bath - even then it took 1 month (at least) for the smell to fully dissipate.
Thanks Sid - didn't think about the rabies thing...good call. I just this old broom and tried to power wash as best I could. But if I do a 'detail' i will wear gloves. Cheers
tomato juice is useless...the peroxide/baking soda combo works very well. I know this from experience with both!! How do you remove skunk odor from your dog? Wash immediately with the following mixture: 1/4 cup baking soda 2 teaspoons of a dish washing liquid 1 quart hydrogen peroxide Use a hose to get your pet wet, then begin to shampoo the hair of your dog thoroughly. The mixture will fizzle when the baking soda and peroxide are mixed. Avoid getting any of this mixture in your dog's eyes or on its nose. References: dogs.about.com/od/caringfordogsandpuppies/ht/deskunking.h The key for dogs is "To wash immediately"....otherwise the oils soak into their hair and lingers for quite some time.
I did that mixture on the dogs, and it definitely took most of the smell out. I still had that lingering smell for a month though. hahaha I hope all of you never suffer the black white striped terror!!! Be well all.
Yeah, I've seen all sort of animals up there...although the scariest thing was when a buck jumped in front of a 430 I was behind - this was up in North bay - we both swerve last minute - that was a heart attack moment for sure. When you drive in rural back roads, you have to always on guard for wild animals. (and other dangers of course)
Ammonia smells bad but better than Pepe. Go to the dollar tree where everything is a dollar. Couple bucks later you can remove the clothes pin from your nose.
Paul, it's an oil so the baking soda trick should work. Probably just the lower panels right? Baking soda is gritty so you might need to polish it a bit if it causes micro scratches in the paint. I'd imagine the grill is more resilient. My 2c. Good luck!
Paul, have you ever been or know of "Pit Row" down in Santa Clara? You can rent lifts by the hour and comes with tons of tools and others that can be browed in shop. Check it out if needed for a lift (call ahead if the smell is still pretty bad).
Only us old timers have any clue as to who/what "Pepe Le Pew" is!!!! I asked my kids (28 and 23) and they had no clue. Somehow, I feel that we our loosing a bit of our culture. Or maybe I'm just becoming an old fart. Sid Image Unavailable, Please Login
I've read and heard that place and hearing nothing but great things! Thankfully the smell seems to be dissipating quite well. I figure I'll just wait it out, thank goodness I have a convertible! haha Thanks all for your tips and advice - it is appreciated!
