Anyone done a build? I'm thinking of building a CX 500 Deluxe. Love the tanks and the motors on those bikes. My inspiration would be something like this, but painted Audi Nardo Grey. Image Unavailable, Please Login

luv that bike and its unique radial layout like partial ww2 fighter plane. yes they are tanks consider how heavy they are. about 5 years ago a buddy was giving one away and the thought did cross my mine for a cafe. but it was a hassle to ship to detroit from seattle so i passed. ive too many projects going on anyhow.
BSA Lightning A65. It was built as a show bike when I bought it, turned out to be a bucket of mismatched bolts. I had it completely rebuilt, then never rode it. Sold it on a couple of months ago.
Well, looks like the project is underway. Here's the starting point. Should be picked up tomorrow. Image Unavailable, Please Login
You were after that one too? Looks like the search is still on. My guy went to go look at it today, and aside from a bunch of leaks, the VIN on the title didn't match the frame.
No, just searched it on local Craigslist and it was one of the first that came up. I would like to build one of these some day. Currently working on my 73 CL70 in an attempt to get it to run 60mph+
The CX500 is indeed becoming more and more popular to build. Shaft drive limits things you can do with the rear wheel and gearing but hey what is life without challenges? I'm sure you know all about the weak stator and charging system in general. Must split engine cases to renew it. Perhaps that is Job 1 on your "to-do" list. A stock 'cx has a mechanically driven cooling fan which is just bizarro. A few days ago a guy bought an Ohlins shock from a 996 from me for his current/ongoing 'cx build. He sent me a pic. If you want contact info say the word. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I had a CX500 Deluxe that I cafe'd - nice bike, v-twin but what I hated the most was that it was absolutely gutless. Unless you decide to go with Murrary's re-worked Mikuni Carbs it will be about as fast as a cruiser bicycle. Keep in mind if you go with Murrary's carbs, the costs add up quickly due to changes to the brakes etc. to factor in the increased power. Some pics in it's various stages: http://imgur.com/a/MGMEB
Still searching for the right bike, but the parts are already showing up. Per the advise here and other research, I got a set of Murray carbs, CBR600RR front forks, brake and front wheel. I also ordered a really sweet 2 into 1 custom exhaust from Andrei (BBCR) and progressive rear shocks. Hopefully I'll have everything underway soon.
10k one owner miles. The bike is actually really clean with no rust. It was always garaged, including the time recently when the seller was cutting tile in his garage. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Nice score on a donor. Foam grips, throttle lock and engine guards. All that's missing is a Windjammer lol. The 600RR front end should be cool. Is it from an 03/04? Those are conventional or "right side up" forks. 05 and later are upside-downers. On this type of build the conventional versions seem a better fit/look to my eye.
My bro just picked up an 81 Honda this past weekend to start a cafe build. I'll probably need one too then haha.
Nice. Love the cafe style. The wife has made it clear no bikes. An option is a Ducati static display in the garage or great room which would be pretty cool. Awesome project.
