I'm new and have been lurking for a year. I just picked up a 1981 308. There's no paper work on it. It runs fine and shifts good and from the reading I have been doing it might be time for a belt job. There's a few Independent shops in the Boston area i found and if I'm correct there might be one in Andover that i was told about a while back but I don't know the name. Does anybody know the name?

Your best bet would be to call David Feinberg (Fastradio on Fchat). He is hands down the most competent, comprehensive and trustworthy mechanic you are going to find. He serviced my car and those of several friends.

    Here is his contact info:

Steve, you didn't happen to buy your 308 from a gentleman in Hingham did you?

Thanks Jay. Someone else mention this person too. I googled that address but I think it might be wrong. Looks like somebodys home. Do you have his shop address?

I've not met Dave Feinberg, but he does indeed have a great reputation out here. Aside from Dave, you have several good choices in Eastern MA, for your 308.

    1. Ferrari of New England -- call Michael Shalhoub at (781) 619-6956. Surprisingly price competitive. 10% discount for FCA members too. Ask for Nicola Maffeo to work on the car; he's the specialist for older Ferraris.

    2. John Tirrell at IFS, in South Easton. (508) 238-4224. John has been working on Ferraris personally for decades. Not the cheapest option, but not more expensive than others, and it's a cool place to hang out.

    3. Steve Oldford at Aston Martin of New England/Lotus Motorsports in Waltham. (781) 547-5959 ext 226. Steve is a great guy and a long-time supporter of both the FCA and FChat. Highly recommended, and he's probably the closest to you. Steve also offers a 10% discount to FCA members, and just recently hired one of the best Ferrari techs around, Brian Walsh.

Can't go wrong with any of these shops.

    vty,

    --Dennis

Ok I see. No offense to him or anyone running their business out of their home but I had a bad experience with someone doing the same thing a few years ago. So I'm not to comfortable about it.

This is not a small shop in a single car garage.
David has a fully equipped facility that is on the same property as his home. In MA difficult, in NH common. Several service lifts, Full complement of Ferrari special tools etc. Most difficult to quantify is his knowledge and skill. David will treat you fairly and I can guarantee the work will be top shelf.
He currently has several 308s in for repair, 365 Boxer, 328s etc. David is also an owner, wonderful 365 Boxer and 550.
Give him a call. You may be surprised!

    Hi Steve...congrats on the 308!

I worked for Ferrari for 11 years and I had a 328GTS myself a few years back. Call me anytime and stop by for a tour of our shop.

    Best,
    Steve

Thanks for the kind words, John. With the influx of new business, coupled with our recent town board approvals, we will be expanding even more than in past years. With our now complete Bosch diagnostic suite of specialty tools, all of those classic K-jet cars that folks are still struggling with to get repaired properly (on the first try) finally have a place to go to.

You owe it to yourself to give fastradio a call and talk to him. He's not a shade tree mechanic running a fly by night business out of his two car garage. He has many years of professional experience, has a state of the art three bay shop, and I doubt anybody in the area has a more constant flow of 3x8 cars through their shop than he does. Having seen many of the cars that he's worked on, they mostly come in a mess, and all leave not only fixed but so clean you could eat off them. With David you will receive personal attention, meticulous workmanship, and unrivaled honesty and integrity.

My car had been through several of the other shops listed, and while I don't have anything negative to say about any of them, my car was never truly 'made right' until I brought it to David. I arrived as a customer and left as a friend.

Here's another vote for David. Not only did he service Jay's car (which is now mine ;)) but he was instrumental in the whole purchase arrangement. Since then, he's helped me long-distance on a number of projects to sort out long-term and preventative maintenance needs.

His prices are honest and fair, and I don't know of a better, more qualified, and experienced person in your area who I'd trust with my car. If only I could package up David and ship him out to the northwest... He's that good.

Nope, it sure didn't. Still, like any old car it needs a bit of preventative sorting to make it ready for the next 25 years. As I said, David has been very helpful in this regards even though we're at opposite ends of the country. If the worst ever happened to the engine, I know where I'd ship the car to for the best possible care.

To the OP: Give David a call, you will not be dissapointed.

Since this thread is over a month old, I suspect the OP got in touch with Steve O. instead. But I'm sure Steve took good care of him.
