Any recommendations on someone to install a radar / laser system and, possibly, some audio components? Prices are really all over the map on identical radar systems -- talking thousands of dollars in difference -- so looking for some good recommendations on installers. Not looking for the world's most elaborate bespoke factory leather with custom stitching super steal install, either.

Thanks, guys ... I have contacted some of these shops but got estimates ranging from $4500-$5500 to install the Escort system. They are also charging full list ($2000) for the system which is readily available online for $1395. I understand the shop needs to make a buck, but paying that much for labor on what is a pretty straightforward installation is a little hard to rationalize, especially since the BMW dealer will put the same system in our 435 for $2200 installed.

Don't get me started on the $17000 quote for a mid-level audio system.

Understood. I own a shop and perform these installs regularly. I have been following BMC and AVI's work for many many years. They have quite a bit of experience with European and exotic marques. I'd recommend anyone to them in a heartbeat.

I personally would NEVER let the dealer install one of these radar/laser systems in any of my vehicles. Believe it or not, there is a science and craft associated with these installs and if you want it done right, be willing to spend the money. Form, fit, and function does not come cheap on these vehicles, and definitely not when you have someones 200k - 800K dollar vehicle in 20 pieces spread around your shop.

And honestly if I were you, I'd be looking at either an Escort 9500CI / AL Priority combo, Bel STIr Plus / AL Priority combo, or Stinger Radar / AL Priority combo. These days using anything else will get you a ticket, especially with the high tech variable pulse rate laser guns out there. Not only do we know the countermeasures that we install, we also have very good understanding of the threats out there and which systems are your best investment.

Whatever you choose, good luck and drive safe. :)
