If anyone is in the shipping business, I would appreciate some help. I purchased an item at auction recently in Boston and need to ship it to York, PA. Of the three companies recommended by the gallery, one won;t do it, the other is outrageously expensive and I am awaiting a third quote. It is a model schooner. Any suggestions, please PM or Email me.

    Thanks in advance.

What are the general dimensions of this Schooner? Especially height and width?

try USHIP . I have used them with good results .. I assume it it to large to ship by fedx or ups etc.. It is an online shipping posting company just place what you want on it and people will quote you etc...

Does the auction house have a recommended shipper? Maybe call Sotheby's and ask who they use for fine arts shipping?

Yes and they are losers and either can't ship or charge absurd prices.

Good point. Schooner. Stem to stern: 60" Beam: 12" Height from bottom of stand to tip of mizzen mast: 63". Weight is 46#. Awkward. Large model.

All's well that ends well. I used United Van Lines in Boston who had the model crated and shipped on October 8. It arrived today with two nice courteous fellows who put the crate exactly where I needed it. We spent the morning removing who knows how many screws and uncrated the boat. There are myriad more screws in the immobilization packing which we'll do tomorrow. Great job at a reasonable price.

The model is magnificent. Finely detailed. To appreciate it, google Malabar X. Some great history as well as photos of my model.

Thanks to all who provided advice.

Any reason you can not pick up or an acquaintance/friend ? Boston to York and back in a day.
Reason being I was in a similar situation. Shipping was making me sick. Wound up getting the delicate item myself. I lost a day but by the next day I was behind me and I was breathing easier.
