    Hi,
    I'm Jim new member.
Read the story from F40 Owner. Congrats Jamie. Beautiful pictures.

I grew up in the 50's Loved baseball thought I was Mickey Mantel, and two seat sport cars.
Worked after school and summers in a four bay wooden floor garage. Enjoyed turning a wrench, but not working on everyday cars. Came from a hard working family of meager means with a great belief in God.
Went to war in the 60's. Raised a family. Rebuilt a few cars for our children.
Always wanted to build an exotic. At a car show in 91 there were two F40 replica's it was love at first site. With a patient wife I started my dream build F40. Took over twelve years.

What is that? It's certainly not an F40.

Chas, why do you have to bring my F40 down like that? :)

Somehow I have found a way to live without T tops. Maybe I don't know what I'm missing?

You wont find a lot of love for replicas here.
Even from some who will never possess a real Ferrari but, hey, its fun to cast stones.
You put the effort, skill, time and money forward to build what you wanted.
IMO that carries a lot of weight compared to stroking a pen for an original.

If you have the talent to build something, then go ahead and build something amazing and unique, something other than a (horrible) copy of an original work. Aside from all the legal and ethical issues with that, people could see that monstrosity and might actually think that they're seeing a real F40. And then they actually think that an F40 is an ugly POS instead of the majestic beauty that it is.

Furthermore, the amount of time and money that was put into that could have probably purchased an awesome Ferrari like a 308 or 308GT4 or something else that's a fantastic car. And the guy should have all the skills to work on it himself.

    It's called "FerrariChat," not "FakeCarChat."

And you can take digs all you want about "stroking a pen for an original" but I can guarantee that his 12 years of building that isn't anything compared to the years of blood, sweat, tears, and hardship that I personally endured to do something as trivial like writing the check for my F40.

Oh, you know, not much really. Just a few companies, a miniature business empire, and a career as a professional athlete on the side. Just normal everyday stuff.

You won't get much respect here for your Craplica...

Don't care whats in it, or what you built......its no different than a fake Rolex

Craplicas de-value the real thing. Every time I see a "Cobra" these days I just assume its a fake.

Took me 9 years to save to buy an exotic....yet there are plenty Craplicas of my real car running around driven by posers.

And just calling it an F40 makes you a poser.

Same here. Can you imagine if there where 10,000 F40 copies driving about? Takes away a certain amount of specialness if you do have a real one....

Considering there are well over 6000 (2 second of googling, article from 2008) Cobra kits supplied by just 1 manufacturer (superformance) and there are many, many more of these, it's not a figure that's out of reach at all.

Could I build one? As long as I don't have to shape the body and all that, but simply bolt it together reading of instructions, I can't see why not. But I wouldn't built a car that's a copy of something else to fool my next door neighbour...I'd built something like an Ultima GTR and throw in a Mercedes V12 or something.

I get it, took me till I was 38 to buy my first Ferrari. From 15 until I was 30 I researched kit cars and replicas because back then it was the closest I thought I would ever come to owning the real car (for me it was a Diablo). 8 years ago I went as far as to buy an 88 Fiero Gt, it was on and I was going to build a replica. I was ridiculed by friends and other enthusiasts and discouraged and sold the GT and bought a viper and drove it till this past year until I was ready for my 360. In hindsight I am glad I did it this way, took more time, I got to drive a cool car in the meantime and I now have an authentic car not a fake one.

If you are that handy why not go the extra mile and design and build your own unique body, then you will have an original car! Like this guy but without the murci influence.

Congrats on your hard work., it does look impressive. I know what it takes to build a car and not just write a check for one. People deserve credit on what they can build with their own two hands, if you like the final results or not. Everyone can't just write a check and claim the fame.
