For those of us with euro cars and cars with problematic emissions, it appears after Dec 31, 2010, we do not need to pass emissions on those crazy dyno machines. Anyone go for inspection lately care to comment on this? I was told they only check for safety now. This is day in heaven for us!

This is the only relevant information that I've found.

I did get a leaflet from my insurance co saying something to this effect. They mentioned anytime after August 2011 cars in general, at least in NJ - will only get safety inspection.

Yes, that is correct, pre-1996 non-OBDii cars will now just be a safety inspection (Repair shops are required though to verify that the vehicle has catalytic converters :-( )

    !!!! YOW!

Makes sense too. Not too many non-ODBII vehicles on the road and dwindling every day.
    Hooray!!!

My euro car came with two exhaust. The first one was a straight thru Tubi. The second one was home made from a BMW catalytic converter with one set of fake tail pipes simply welded on and the other set of tail pipes directly out of the converter. No muffler.

Needless to say, I never put that home made one on!

Hello - I am resurrecting this old thread to find out from the group what registration/inspection/emission nightmares I might face when I move my '85 Euro 308QV from Texas to NY next month. Without going into the specific line items, my car is everything you would expect of a Euro model.

    Thanks!

Absolutely none. Just register and spend 12 bucks or so on a safety inspection. The car is over 25 years old.
