My last two work trips to NYC, there has been a F355 Berlinetta in the Ferrari Park Avenue showroom. Does anybody know the story here? I haven't seen an out-of-production model there before, and I'm curious why it's there. I like to think it's a 1k mile 1995 model, but maybe the real story is a little less exciting. Thanks!

OK- I just trekked over to the Ferrari Store during lunch (I guess it's a 3-car showroom, but it's not really a dealership per se- they have lots of swag for sale, but I believe they refer you to an actual dealer if you want to purchase a car). The red F355 Berlinetta is a 1997 stick with ~15K miles. It is in top condition- beautiful car. Here is the kicker through- they have the car's description on the nearby podium, which mentions that in 1997 the car had an average cost of $130,000, and the current selling price is $159,900 (!) If it were a stick shift 3K mile 1999 fiorano I'd think maybe you could get close to that, but for a run of the mill 1997 w/15K miles (although in great shape)?

I'd gladly let my yellow '97 spider go for $155,500 if anyone is interested- a few thousand less, and convertible to boot :) Why not buy the pair- for $315K you'd have a wonderful looking garage ;)

Thanks andrew for checking it out for me, I was only able to get over there at night. I agree, that's a little steep right now. I wonder if some owners are starting to get some of the last manual cars classiched, with an eye on the future. Thanks again!

It may get to that valuation range at some point in the future (with either continued asset bubbles, or the flip side further down the road of inflation), but as of today that seems pretty darn steep. The car looks awesome, especially shined up in a "ferrari showroom setting".

I have a couple of pics, but my Fchat membership lapsed so I don't have any attachments left :(

Nice choice for a display. 355 GTB is one of the most beautiful Ferrari's in my opinion.

My bad, I had a pic I took while I was running but I deleted it. I'll try again if I can get back up there the next week or two :)

159k?! Are these things going for that much? A friend recently bought a 96 Berlinetta 6-Sp) with similar mileage for under 100k.

Paul, the 355 is on the rise. I think $159K is a bit optimistic but good, sorted cars are now $100K +

Sure, you see GTS's and Berlinetta's for less but most need work despite the for sale adds that say they don't :)

The thought of seeing a 355 in the NY Ferrari showroom makes me fall in love with my '99 Grigio Titanium/Cuoio Spider all over again.

@Toddston - I've never seen that color combo on a F355 - you have a pic? Sounds gorgeous!
