Upcoming trip to Detroit - where to stay?

    I am driving from DC to Detroit next Friday, staying overnight and next day driving back. I never been to Detroit, dont know where the good and bad places there...

    I need a good hotel for one night in safe place, self park (car need to still have wheels in the morning lol), may be not directly in a city as it would be hard to get in and out. I appreciate any recommendations! Thank you!

    Where are you getting the dog? Those places might be nowhere close to where you need to go.

    I just drove from Detroit to texas last summer on a 50 hour boomerang myself to get a dog. Budget about 25% more time on the return trip for frequent potty breaks.

    You should try and hit up the pastiener's cars and coffee Saturday morning.

    exactly.... highly doubt there are any breeders downtown. gotta be outside 8 mile.

    This is rescue and I am picking up from a foster home in that area. Initially wanted to fly there/rent a car back but thats going to be more trouble then driving my own car both ways.

    Hey, a year ago I picked up 2 rescue dogs from Texas and drove them to DC, so this trip doesnt look as bad :)

    Big Beaver or Birmingham is not Detroit.

    Enjoy the city. Stay downtown. Corktown is great. Some of the best food around. Check out Batch brewing. There is a recently renovated hotel called Porter and Trumbull. That's all I gotta say about that. Ciao'

    Stay some where nice along the 275. Livonia or Novi. Lots of great lodging, food - and less congestion. Just 20 minutes north of the airport.

    I always stay at The Townsend or The Inn at St. Johns.. ;) lol, kidding..


    Actually, I've been to the MGM Grand in Detroit for a weekend. Was fun. Great food nearby (Slows was good for casual BBQ, there's a GREAT Cuban restaurant nearby- can't remember the name now, but it was fantastic), safe parking, Casino, I liked it..

    I usually stay in Troy, Livonia and Plymouth for work.

    In Novi there is the Baronette, great place. Then eat at the NoVi Chophouse, food is fantastic. Or go to one of our hundreds of microbreweries.
