Heads up! Euro Auto Festival just opened registration 6 days ago and it is already 1/3 full. (135/400) There are few exotics registered. The board ask me to spread the word we would want plenty of exotics on the field. This is going to be a great show this year featuring BMW and French cars. BTW, this year it will NOT be at BMW Manufacturing, rather at Embassy Suites (in Greenville, right off I-85) on the golf course. It should be very nice this year! Won't work. They are tearing up the big green space in front of the museum and putting in a parking lot <cue: Joni Mitchell>
When I click on the hotel reservations link it has me defaulting to a Thursday arrival and Sunday departure. What's your take on this? Are there activities on Friday AM worth coming in early for?
There are activities Friday. Final schedule, I have not seen but there are several tech sessions ans 2 wine tours that are seem to always be well attended and enjoyed. I don't really know much details because I'm involved in the group that is laying out the field on Friday.
How does the Board define an "exotic," and how does their presence magically make the show higher quality? With BMW and French cars featured they already have a formula for a diverse, quality field. More $$$$$ cars does not necessarily = a higher caliber show. It's Greenville, not Boca.
Earlier, I was at the Pinehurst Concourse which featured some of the most spectacular cars in existence. They even had all 3 (LaFerrari, 918, P1) current ultimate cars. Both Porsche and Ferrari also had an impressive display of club cars (including mine) on another part of the golf course. Not sure how this event will compare, and I really prefer the BMW factory location.
Your point is well taken. We are hoping for a variety of cars that are not seen everyday. With BMW the marque maybe can swing that!
think I'm gonna have to pass this year. the embassy suites is OK, BMW as the marque kills it for me. I heard there are already 10 X5s registered as well as a ton of z3s 325 and generic M series cars. very few exotics registered at all. I can go to Costco in Charlotte and see that group of cars.
Well more $$$$$ cars are things people don't get to see as often so they tend attract more attention. While they don't have anything to do with how the show is run, they are usually the talk of the shows.
I just registered the YES Roadster and the '99 BMW 528i SportWagon. (heh, heh -now I can call the wagon a "show car".)
Registration is now CLOSED. Largest group in years due to increased real estate on the Embassey golf course. 440 cars.
I'll probably check it out since I'm local and it's kind of a "tradition" anyway. I just noticed that it's not free however. I think I saw $10/pp in advance and $15/pp at the gate. That's where I kind of change my mind. Not that I'm a cheapskate (well, actually I am) but like someone said before, there will probably be very little that will impress a lot of us. Geez I sound like a snob.
111 BMW, 69 Porsches, 21 Ferraris, 19 various French cars, 89 various Brits. Also, confirmed F40, 2 McLarens, 918, Carerra GT. Rumor has it GTO 3445GT will be there.
