Hey guys - I will be in the Portland area in the middle of August - my daughter has moved out there and I don't think she is going to come back east - we are very close and she is a really good tracker so I guess I'll have to come to her - we r really close - will not have a car with me this trip but am checking the area car wise because I would like to ship one out there in the future
Very excited by the tracks in the area because none available in my location - If anything going on from 8/14 to 8/20 please let me know - I am also a long term member of FCA

Well its been very dry (44+ days without rain in Seattle) and now getting very hot (approaching 100 this week).

Not much going on with FCA that week.

There is the big C&C every weekend in Portland. Mopar is highlighted on the 19th.

The Ridge is hopping that week. They also have a nice little go-kart track (scaled version of the big track). Camp Goodtimes is a charity event for kids with cancer, getting to ride shotgun with any HPDE driver.

    Enjoy your visit.

PDX is about 103 degrees today, might be hotter tomorrow ;)
    Rare this time of year.
Is she in Portland proper or one of the suburbs ?
Not much going on at PIR, Portland International Raceway, but you can check their calendar.
Local dealer in Wilsonville, Ron Tonkin usually has a track type day in Sept (?)
Might be a fun all day event with the daughter at some point.
Also the coast is 90 minutes away west, and Mt Hood and the high desert are 2-4 hours away east of PDX.

Some of the views up on Mt Hood will look like the view from your porch/deck ;)

Thanks for all the info on the area - I won't have a car this trip so no problem on track
My daughter lives 1//2 hr south of the PDX Airport - this is mostly a scouting trip checking the area for maybe part time living - my wife misses our grandson badly and I would like a change of area part time.
    Thanks again

Oh and don't forget fly fishing, my youngest son just moved to Bend.
The last year or so he has been fly fishing in lakes and rivers between PDX and Bend.

Hopefully you understand his lingo :)
I have not fished in years.

Trout and steelhead are probable near Portland. A 3/4 weight rod would be good for the Mt Hood lake trout, they are stocked with 12-16 inches.
For rivers head to the Deshutes area. A 3/4 weight works there also. Native trout in this area.
Not certain if there will be a strong steelhead run in the Descutes in August.
They do run up it, and you would want a 7 or 8 weight rod for steelhead.

Also you can Google Oregon fishing newsletter.
They have a Oregon.gov and a Ore Dept of fish and wildlife site listed.

I assume you're talking about Lake Oswego or West Linn or that area. A few places you might want to check out:

    1) The World of Speed museum in Wilsonville. Great museum, and they host a fantastic cars & coffee on Saturday mornings. Get there early.

    2) The Evergreen Aviation Museum, in McMinnville, if you like that sort of thing. They have the Spruce Goose and a bunch of other stuff. Also a water slide.

    3) Dundee/McMinnville is the center of Oregon wine country. Lots of wineries, tastings, etc. If you go down there, the Allison Inn is incredible (owned by a guy with quite a car collection, as well-- but his collection isn't open to the public except on special occasions).

Those are a few ideas, anyway.
