Very nice photos! I lived up there for three years in the early 80's...and currently I'm up there every other month or so for work.

Here are some OLD spottings: (Summer of 1984) Northern Lights Blvd.: A red 308 GTB, lady driver; 512 BBI, red/Boxer trim. Eagle River, Carrs Parking lot, two tone green 308 GT4.

Get a few more drives in before the snow/gravel return!

Well, there are us three, a white Testarossa, a yellow 360 and a few more red 308s. One is driven by a lady who probably is the same one you saw in the 80's. It has a trailor ball on it.

Rumors of a few others like a 330...

Believe it or not, I see a half dozen Porsches every day. They are everywhere!

SOME Porsches are AWD. Can't assume the ones in Alaska are.

Most are Boxters and 911s, so I think not AWD. I have never seen a Cayenne here, though.

There are few C4s and Cayennes around. The Cayennes are hard to spot, they blend in well with all the other SUVs.

Yep, and we're better looking too :) The ADN said so.

A friend of the wife has a Cayenne S (340 HP). That's why my wife had to get a ML55 (342 HP). She needed the extra 2 HP to get the kids to school first.

We are pretty much "off season" right now. Usually late May, the cobwebs come off and we get the cars out.

There are about 6 total in the state.

Of course. 3 to 5 down here, at least one (you) up with Santa. A couple of sightings of 430 Spider every now and then, and a few 308 kit cars.

Haha I just read through all that. Lots of interesting finds, more than I would imagine Alaska having! Exotic cars in odd places always intrigued me. Quick question though, for you owners up there, when you guys need to do services to your cars, do you ship them down to Washington? Or are there m/any shops up there that'll service these types of vehicles?

Looking back on that old link, I never saw any of those cars on the street.

I work on mine mostly, but it doesn't need much other than fluid changes. I have had it in the Porsche dealership to fix the Bosch ABS brakes.

If I shipped it Outside, it would go to Denver, where I have a 15 year relationship with them. Might be better to pay a mechanic to come up instead.

We have been "in between" houses for almost a year. Should be finished in May and moved back in. Upper Hillside, 2 acres, but on a dirt road.

    Alaska Ferrari Guys:

According to one person in the Alaskan Motor Vehicle department there are 173 registered Ferraris in Alaska (oldest is 1953, newest is a 2013 CAL). Another person at MV says the number is closer to 63 and broke down the cities and numbers (one in Wasilla!). She thinks, however, that due to the low title and registration fees, that some people just reg them in AL and then ship them out of the country - or state.

What do you guys think? I'm still waiting for my editor to pick up his jaw off the floor from that mountainside photo you posted and I forwarded.

I'm really looking for those of you who actually brave the elements and drive your babies in the snow and ice (FF anyone?).

Keep me posted, please. Now let me check that spotting site.

First some hometown pride - we are "AK", not "AL". ;)

I have seen many Alaska plates on cars with owners who have never set foot in the state. I doubt more than a dozen have ever lived here full time. However, there are thousands of incredible cars and trucks that you would never imagine here. I have seen a 1969 Camaro that has been a cover car for Hot Rod magazine, lots of VW vans from the 60s, Nash, Hemis, Porsche, Lambo, GT-R, NSX, two old Blower Bentleys, and a lot of very early 1900s cars.

During the oil boom, a lot of money was up here.
