I am selling a 1999 BMW 740iL in very nice condition. This e38 is located in Alexandria, VA and has been adult owned and well taken care of. 100% stock. Very reliable and mechanically sound.

    1999 BMW 740iL
    4.4L V8, 5-speed automatic
    130k miles
    Cashmere Beige Metallic exterior
    Sand Beige leather interior
Cold weather package (heated seats, heated steering, ski pass-thru)

    Good:
-Clean and clear title (3 owners, no accidents, no liens).
-Clean exterior (original paint, no dents, no rust).
-Very clean interior. Carpets have been steam cleaned and leather has been conditioned.
-Engine and transmission are very strong and smooth. No issues.
-Suspension rides great with no noises or issues (shocks and Michelin tires are good).
-All electrical components are working (windows, lights, ac, radio, wipers, cluster pixels, heated seats/steering wheel, etc)
-Recent oil change, brake pads/rotors, battery
    -New hood/trunk/wheel roundel badges
    -Includes original rear footrests

    Bad:
-Small crack in front bumper (shown in photo)
-Headliner is starting to sag a little in the rear (shown in photo)
    -ABS light is on

I am a BMW enthusiast, honest seller, and happy to answer any questions. Asking $4800... maybe the new cheapest car on Fchat! :) Please PM me with any questions or inquiries. Thanks!

Great looking example. I always liked the foot rests for the rear seats. GLWS!

I've got one like that in my 1997 E36, and unfortunately it's on a band you can't get service for any more. :(

Looks great Brenden. I didn't even know you owned one of these.

Would make a great first car for a young driver. Big and safe!

I think it just needs an abs module but I haven't looked much into fixing it. This motor has a timing chain. Thanks!

I have a 2000 528i (same ABS system - Bosch 5.7 - as the 7 series) that had the ABS light on, and fixing it wasn't too bad. There are basically 5 parts that can fail: The ABS module and 4 wheel speed sensors.

If the ABS module is bad you can have yours rebuilt by ModuleMaster in about 2 weeks for $300. That's a LOT cheaper than buying even a junkyard module and the rebuild also comes with a 5 year warranty. I had mine rebuilt by them about 4 years ago and it's still going strong.

If one or more wheel speed sensors are bad they are fairly easy to replace yourself if they are not corroded into their sockets. I want to say they cost about $160 each but it's been awhile since I replaced one.

I've been told that sometimes a failed module can take a sensor or several sensors with it, so if the module is bad there is probably at least one bad sensor, too.

You can remove the module and safely drive the car while it is being rebuilt, you just won't have ABS or stability control.

You will have to have the car scanned by a dealer or an independent shop that has a BMW GT1 or DIS/MODIC diagnostic system to see what parts are faulty.

Jeff - thanks for saving me the work of typing that out. Would have been basically identical. :)

Actually there are many more inputs to the Bosch 5.7 module since it controls not just abs but also the dsc, such as transmission speed sensor, steering angle sensor, rotation rate sensor, 4 wheel speed sensors, brake pressure sensor, throttle potentiometer, etc.

I actually replaced all 4 wheels speed sensors then rebuilt the abs module. Still had the light so I had it scanned and it says open circuit to steering angle sensor and rotation rate sensor. I don't think the rebuild company (BBA Reman) fixed the module properly since these sensors rarely fail. I currently have five bmw's and just need this one gone. The rebuilt abs module has a lifetime warranty so it likely just needs to be sent back for another inspection. I might try that in the meantime, just have too many projects to re-address this one.

lol certainly sounds like you know what you're doing :)

I drove mine for 2 years with the ABS/TC light on. Learned how to drive pre-ABS/TC so as long as you know how to modulate brakes and gas no big deal.
Was only when my wife started driving it through Milwaukee winters that I wanted to get it fixed.
