Hi all, I'm helping my friend sell & list his 1985 Renault R5 Turbo 2. I have no affiliation with the sale, just helping out. - Car is located just north of Toronto, ON Canada - 32,061 kms (speedo has a mph overlay when sold new in the US, but the odometer is in kms) - US Federalized by Mario's Motors - VIN No. VF1822000E0000697 - Current owner has had it almost 20 years (was imported into Canada from the US when it was 15 years old) Always garage kept. - Original paint is in very good condition, but apparently a couple of sections were resprayed some 25 years ago (difficult to see where, it might even be all original). No overspray, car looks as it should. I've driven the car, pulls hard and it has never been abused. Transmission shifts perfectly. It rides on TRX, original wheels - one center cap missing, older tires. - Everything appears to be original, owned by an enthusiast (he's into Italian cars, has Alfas, Fiats, we raced X1/9's together, he's mechanically inclined so he can answer anything about the car). The car is straight, no hits, no rust. - Quite rare, very few in North America and it should be able to go back to the US with no problem. This car is unmodified. Lots of documentation, service records, service manual and other interesting stuff comes with the car. $85K USD. PS - the car is not at The Guild (as pictured on flickr) - we just stopped in front of it. Front license plate is held by tie wraps as to not put screws through the fascia. Serious buyers can drop me an email and I'll put you in contact with him Full set of Hi-Res photos on my flicker account, feel free to have a look! https://www.flickr.com/photos/myronsamila/sets/72157649853504310/ Here's some photos Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
me too.. when I was younger, I almost bought a LeCar.. unfortunately the engine was on the wrong end of the car
oh, good question - quick answer is "most likely no " at least not in its current configuration.. as it was never equipped with a catalytic converter. Since it's no longer required to meet EPA or DOT regs, it should be OK elsewhere in the US - but this will be up to the buyer to sort out, but I can do my best to help. https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/278/kw/vehicle/related/1 https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/289/related/1/session/L2F2LzEvdGltZS8xNDIyNDExMjE1L3NpZC9DOFFRNnlkbQ%3D%3D/~/registering-a-foreign-registered-vehicle%2C-car-or-motorcycle-in-the-u.s.-with Thanks guys - driving this thing is quite a unique experience.. the motor is pretty much inside the cabin - right behind you, separated by very little! Sounds pretty good when the turbo is spooling up. OH, BTW: forgot to mention, there's a brand new Stage 2 intercooler included with the sale. These cars have a very small market, but they're quite cool to have within a collection. At least I can scratch "drive an R5Turbo2" off my bucket list I took some video of the car, will post it up soon.
That's my old car! It was the second one I had, I'm in Cincinnati and sold it to a Canadian whose name, as I recall, was Enzo. (Really!) Fun cars!
WOW I've always wanted one of these. Hard to swallow the price too!! I should have bought one 10 years ago!
I'm on the same page. I'd love to have one, just not at the price point these seem to be at in the current market. To the OP . . . fantastic car though. GLWS.
Very cool car, would be a blast to have in a collection. My biggest memory of these is seeing a black one in about 1987 or so, wrapped around a light pole on the Georgia Tech campus, right in front of the administration building! I had seen it around campus a few times, always thought it looked great, and then it didn't look so great. Doh. GLWS!
Price wise - tough to say, the market is tiny. I'm sure my friend is negotiable on the price. I have to give my head a shake when I see a Fiat Jolly going for $100K!! I shot video - sorry, I didn't do the greatest job at editing! : https://www.flickr.com/photos/myronsamila/16204020168/in/photostream/ rest of the photos are here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/myronsamila/sets/72157649853504310/ and if you're bored - check out the rest of my pics: https://www.flickr.com/photos/myronsamila/sets
To answer a few questions on the strong asking, it is negotiable but no where near sub $50K. There is very little current US/Canada sales data to pinpoint where this thing will land. Lots of interest in it though, and thank you! The market seems to be quite strong in Europe, as this recent sale would seem to indicate (75K GBP!!) - and previous owner claims it spent some time in California (how did it pass smog?!) Interestingly, this black car doesn't have the E-code headlights - it's got the sealed beam units (or H4), probably a federalization requirement. The red car I have listed has E-code headlights as supplied in Europe. Renualt 5 Turbo 2 - Immaculate SOLD (1984) on Car And Classic UK [C536152] Here are two others, one in the US with 100K kms for 50K GBP http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C570820 and other w/no price: http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C488151 Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have seen the market the past couple years go nuts. couple T1's selling at auction for over 125k. of course the t2 always will go for less, but not that much less. I would say a clean t2 original could range from $70-90k. This is one to watch for you. Also look at the estimate. Bonhams : Livrée neuve en France avec seulement 17.600km au compteur,Renault 5 Turbo 2 1986
The Bonhams car sold for $80,500 Euros and that includes a 15% buyers premium and the seller would also have to pay a premium that could be negotiated but likely 10%.....geeez the auctions seem to do well. Of course the car is in France and needs to be shipped here.
Amazing! Thanks for posting the auction link and results. I think my listing is a good opportunity. It will sell, eventually. Just needs to be marketed correctly. Heck, it might sell quicker in Europe! Car is still available
No way!! I didn't know that either.. It took an Italian to make a French car look better Renault 5 Turbo - Wikipedia I love Gandini's styling, but of course.. I'm biased!
Hate to say it, but Ebay will get the word out. Posting on Fcat, local craigslist, etc. Will not get it done. If your not getting offers around or at least at 70k your not reaching out to the right market. And yes , the car might be going back home to Europe. Good luck.
