    1961 Jaguar Mark 2, 3.8 liter, 4 speed/overdrive. Stripped to metal and fully restored in 2000. Leather, wilton wool etc. Just had trans/clutch/overdrive rebuilt. Car was a Jaguar magazine cover car in 2000. Fast appreciating model in the Jag line up. The Mark 2 is the most iconic of all the 4 door Jags as shown by Ian Callum's (Head of Jaguar Design) choice for his personal hot rod.

    Price is $39,000. Car was in Carmano Island, Washington. Retired airline pilot was PO whose son restored it in 2000. I just did trans/overdrive/clutch a month ago. Beautiful example.

    Yup...These cars definitely scream character and grace. People take pictures of this car while I'm driving every time out. In it's day, these were the fastest 4 door cars on the road and the preferred getaway car by bank robbers in England.

    Damn I want this car so much, but I don't have any space at the moment. I guess I could use it to knock over a few banks and then take the cash to buy a larger garage.

    Lowered price to $37,000....and yes, Inspector Morse did drive one from what I understand.

    I had a '60 MKII Sedan with a slush box. I got tired of it skipping 2nd gear installed a 4sp w/OD, it made for a much nicer car. I always thought Inspector Morse drove a S, but I just looked it up. It was a 2.4L MKII which sold at auction for a record £53,000.

    This has a 4 month old, completely rebuilt 4 spd/overdrive/clutch. So...matching numbers.

    Jag 15. I love that car,I love the colour,it is a take on British Racing Green,but BRG was a flat paint,not a metalic,no matter...over this side of the pond,WW tyres are not appreciated any more. I worked for a Jag dealer when I was a trainee salesman. The Mk II had just come out. ...The white police car shown ? we supplied these to Hampshire and Sussex police. They had a chrome bell on front bumper,so maybe that photo is just a publicity shot with the two lovely ladies. There is no way that girls would be on traffic control at that level! The lower police car is a Mk1,so 2.4 or 3.4,but suspect the the 'police' plate has been added,maybe for a film. ....The Morse car sold purely on its high profile. The fact that it was fitted with a black 'fabric' roof was a cosmetic/fashion addition,and does nothing for the car,or any other for that matter.In 1979,I was the proud owner of a 3.8 Mk 2. Carmen Red,with chrome wires. At that time there was nothing better in life!

    Hi Michael, thanks for the history of the cars. On YouTube look up 2 segments called "The Car's the Star"-Jaguar Mark 2 (1 &2). It is complete with an interview with Bruce Reynolds and why they chose the Mark 2 for The Great Train Robbery. Great videos. Also a number of factory videos of the making of the Mark 2.
