I'm a long-time amateur car collector and am seeking a nice #2 "driver" 2.4 Dino spyder in original condition to enjoy with wife/kids as a weekend car.

Color is not a big deal provided the car is correct/original. Does not need to be a fresh concours restoration.

Cash buyer and I'm willing to pay a fair price.

Because I have just completed the rebuild of a Fiat Dino 2.4 spider I am curious about what you think a fair price is?
There are thought to be around twenty of these in the USA, good luck

I think they made like 180 2.4's total. Hard to find.

For what it sounds like you want it for, I'd search for a 2.0. Some actually think it's a better car. I was looking for a good driver 2.0 and they ran between 45 to 60 on average.

To be honest, at that price I'd rather have a 328. But, Dino's are really nice. Good luck with the search!

Yes but the Dino won't depreciate like the 328 and if your tall you can fit in the Dino. I love the sound of a Dino V6.

I think the 328 is at the bottom as long as it's well kept. Even it is not, its not falling much.

They are apples and oranges though. It's just that I'd rather have a 328 for that amount of money for a sunday driver. I do love the Dino spider though.

You could pick up a good Dino spider 10 years ago in from 15 to 20. They went up rapidly with the 246 (whose pricing is WAY out of whack). Coupes though are still not very desirable.

What to look for: Rust, rust, rust and unobtainium interior trim pieces. Most of these cars were not well looked after for 30 years of their lives. Rising prices have brought out some beaters with bondo and Earl Shieb paint jobs.

Yea rust is the big killer and like you say Dino's weren't taken car of very well. The spiders body is beautiful, but the coupe has grown on me over the years. I never noticed it until we had a club meet, but the Coupe looks like a little Iso Grifo I have a picture somewhere of the two cars nose to nose.

I think the Dino like most Italian cars shares many trim parts with regular fiats. One of my favorite things to do is look at different Alfa's and Fiats and figure out where all those trim parts go on Maserati's Ferrari's Lambo's and Iso's. The Miura uses a lot of Fiat 850 parts.

The July issue of Classic Motorsports had a very nice article about a 2.4 Dino

    http://classicmotorsports.net/issues/details/180/

and the Sept issue of Classic and Sports Car has a story about Dino V6 engined cars, including a 2.0 Dino as well.

That's insane, I'm sorry. Very cool car, I love them but $220K?

    I could have a 964 or 993 + a 328 for that money...really?

2.4 Dino Spider for less than 150K is not happening.

You must factor that only 424 were made and only 236 are registered on Worldwide Dino Register

Allot, of current owners are currently having them restored to near new condition.
You must factor 120K for a proper restoration.
You will also notice that there are not that many around for sale.

If you find a Dino 2.4 unrestored for less than 150K you will need to keep in mind that it will need attention. Even if the name is Fiat on the hood of the car. The restoration is as expensive as Ferrari. The 2.4 is fairly complex and parts are not easy to find. Such as the rear bumper or rear deck lid, front blinkers...

To me the car is worth allot more than 250K.
It's a very very low production car, powerful, with full independent suspension, advanced braking system for its time, ZF transmission and Top down!

One of the best underpriced sports cars on the market, IMO these are 250K plus cars

Wow...you know how to pick em. Is the engine an actual Dino engine as in 246? These were inexpensive until recently.

Affirmative, almost identical to the Dino 246 and the 2.0 liter Fiat Dino engines were nearly identical to the Dino 206. I had a Fiat Dino 2400 GT and it felt like a little Daytona. For sale here after I picked up the 308 GTS. $5K asking price in 1981. Still have some copied tech data lying around. To me the 2.4 liter Fiat Dinos were much more attractive than the 2 liters and the IRS worked great.

Peter- Affirmative, at the time I owned mine, the transmission may have been the most valuable part on her.
