I was looking around the interweb and came across an ad for this.......

    http://www.classicdriver.com/en/car/alfa-romeo/8c/1938/222815

A 1938 Alfa Romeo 8C2900B Touring Spider, does anyone know anything about the car... Is it legit, if so that would be huge. Considered also posting in Vintage but hey Other Italian seems to be where all the Alfa guys hang out

    :)

The ad says that it has been built up completely new to the exact specification of an original. So not the real deal!

Yeah I also thought that was the most likely answer. BUT then I thought it is all semantic or at least the google translation I read said fully rebuilt as new which could mean it is new or could it mean restored as new?

Dont know...... Could be an Argentina made replica

The description tells it is a re-creation.

    Best,

    Jack.

Heres my take on the 8C2.9 and its value

1936 2.9A (4 built, 1 remaining - #412001 - renumbered #412008 in '37, #412002 - renumbered #412007 in '37, #412003 - renumbered #412012, #412004 '36 Mille Miglia WINNER - renumbered #412006 - survives either with UK or in Germany)These cars are effectively 2 seat 8C/35's with very similar layouts, engines etc. The value would surely not exceed double the 8C/35 although the only surviving '36 spec car did win the Mille Miglia so maybe $15 million.....

    1937 2.9A (Approx. 3 built, 1 survives - #412003 - '37/38 renumbered #412015, #412005 - '37/38 renumbered #412013, #412006 - '37 Mille Miglia WINNER, '37/38 renumbered #412004 - survives in Schlumpf Collection/ French National Motor Museum) As above with the same value.

1937 2.9B Touring Corto Spider (5 built, all survive in private collections #412007 (rebuild ex. #412002), #412014, #412016, #412018, #412019) The big hitter of Alfa's and certainly worth $30 million

1937 2.9B Zagato Corto Spider (#412011 - later rebodied), Pininfarina Corto Spider (#412012/ rebodied from #412003 - sold Christies 1999 for US$4 mil) Alfa Romeo Corto Spider (#412013 - later rebodied & #412015/ rebodied from #412003) Touring Corto Spider (#412021 - later rebodied) Farina Lungo Spider (#412027) Touring Berlinetta ("Villa d'Este" #412039) All of these cars have been rebodied at least once and/ or have less spectacular bodywork but still would be worth in the $15 - 25 mil. range depending on provenance.

    1937/ 1938 2.9B Touring Lungo Berlinetta (5 built, 1 in a museum, 4 in private ownership#412020, #412024, 412029 - Museo Alfa Romeo, #412035, #412036 - 1947 Mille Miglia WINNER - Collier Collection - sold Brooks Monterey 2000 US$4 million) These cars are in the $20 million range

1937/ 1938 2.9B Touring Lungo Spider (4 built, all in private ownership #412022, #412023, #412026, #412041) Not quite as valuable as the Corto Spider but still would have to be $25 mil.

1938 2.9B Touring Mille Miglia Spider (4 built, 2 in museums #412030 - Ralph Lauren, #412031 - Mille Miglia WINNER - Simeone Museum, #412032 & #412034 - Schlumpf Collection) Along with the Touring Corto Spiders the most valuable/ desirable of all Alfa's, easily worth $30 million, Lauren was rumoured to have paid $25 million for his in '04

    1938 2.9B Touring Le Mans Berlinetta (1 built, #412033 - Museo Alfa Romeo) 1 off $20 - 25 mil.

    1941 2.9B The Whale (1 built #412043 Louwman Collecton, Netherlands) 1 off $15 million.

Thanks so much for that breakdown and your estimates, Timmmmmmmmmmy. Very cool.

I was fortunate enough to grow up in the same town as 412016. It's no accident that a 2.9 Alfa is the only car listed as 'wanted' on my Fchat bio.

    Best,
    Dave
