Nice Kodachrome photo. That was at Torino in 1956 I would guess. The car did win at Pebble Beach this year with it's modified body.
Same 3000CM chassis. They modified the car 4 or 5 times for autoshows between 1956 and 1960. It was also the design that led to the Duetto, but they made a few more prototypes before they came up with the final design. Here is a Giulietta based prototype. One more step towards the final Duetto design. Pinninfarina did not give up on it for 10 years!! Image Unavailable, Please Login
No, Bertone and Pinninfarina did some cool stuff for Alfa. That is a problem now. Manufactures attemp to do it themselves poorly and also copy others. We end up with the same old boring crap from everyone. And ofcourse the Euro front end height requirements are really making everything have flat huge grills to hide the height. We need US cars to have a different nose clip than Euro!!!! Why should we have to suffer because some biased study done in Europe came to the conclusion high fronts kill less people??? I bet a study showing it killed more could also be done!!
Valid. Should have stated 'Alfa contracted some great design stuff'. And what I meant . Agree with all of you, designs from the past are why we all hang here and lust after classic cars. Just way mo bettah
The other problem is wind tunnels. if you take cars of a similar size and seating capacity the wind tunnel locks you into a very narrow range of shapes.
By the way, this car also came in second place at the 1953 Mille Miglia driven by Fangio!! Chassis number AR*1361 . 00128 original Alfa Corse coupe body by Colli............This car was alot faster than the Ferrari's at the MM until it's steering broke. Fangio had to slow down alot thus allowing the Ferrari to win. Here are a few photos after the race body was removed. Final body not shown is still on the car. It was modified in 1960 by Pininfarina. I bet the 1956 plexiglass fender version was a big hit as tightly curved glass on cars was still rare then.
