There's a sizeable contingent of participants and yellow shirts, far surpassing the paying public.

Actually, I got the count from IMS and the Saturday crowd exceeded Day 2 of Qualifying for the 500 this year...

:D It was a lot more fun than I expected! We had 21 Sports 2000 cars and multiple Divisional National Champions and two National Champions driving. My pole lap here: Pole Lap Indy - YouTube

David Doran, Kevin's brother, drove the car he won the National Championship in 1995 at Mid-Ohio by me into the first corner and I ran out of laps to get him back! Still won the old car, outboard suspension class!

It was incredible! Can't wait to see them!

+1 on 5893. The museum was great, too. Interesting to see the progression of engineering on the Indy winning cars over several decades.

I don't know about the Lusso, but the whole car was extremely nice; looked like the interior was new.

I am glad I went, even though I had to drive the Z3 15 hours one way. I was only there Thursday and Friday. Drove home on Saturday, then went to work today. Bummer.

My Z3 has 187K miles and made it with no issues.

The speedway is an amazing place.

I might have gone to this event if I wasn't already committed to a charity event at Atlanta Motorsports Park. Hopefully it will be an annual fixture on Indy's calendar.

Here is a link to more photos: SVRA Indy Brickyard Vintage Racing Invitational 2014 - Photos. The cars I think I would have most liked to see were the Ford Mk IV, the Lotus turbine car and the Parnelli F1 car.

Hard not to beat Day two qualifying crowd numbers...... Luckily, although requested to assist a couple of cars during the weekend, they withdrew, and I was able to landscape my daughter's house near Main Street, traffic was non-existant.

Unfortunately, the total raping of any Speedway mystique is now complete, what next, SCCA!!! My first visit was 83, I worked as Michael Andretti's crew chief in 84/85 and Daly in 86, that's when we truly had 100K+ for qualifying, days never to return unfortunately.

No, unfortunately those glory days will never return... thanks to TG.

But the Speedway has woken up and moved on from the "Gene Simmons era"...

Mark Miles is a leader. And the family is listening.

Great event. I talked with Bobby Unser, Buddy Lazier and Janet Guthrie among others. Here is a picture of Bobby Unser signing his 1981 winning car.
