Circuit of the Americas making some noise about the upcoming combined WEC/TUSCC event in September in an effort to bolster attendance. Le Mans/WEC - WEC's big plans for "Lone Star Le Mans" COTA event BHW
translation: nobody gives a rats ass about sports car racing, so we're going to turn it into a drunken festival instead.
Maybe they are looking at the demographics of the infield crowd at the Sebring 12hr for inspiration?!? Interesting tattoo to tooth ratio at that one. Makes the Talladega crowd look like a Baptist Convention.
As John Greenwood learned while he was promoting at Sebring, you never go wrong appealing to the college crowd. Greenwood got the notion to go to the colleges up and down the eastern seaboard to promote Sebring with heavy advertising and free tickets. It worked and as Sebring is usually set right in the middle of Spring Break, it became the Spring Break destination and the party ensued. Of course, in 1980, this all blew up in the form of nekked people performing sex acts on top of a U-Haul under the flagpole which nearly brought The Race to a halt once the locals got word of what was happening out there. Don't see this happening at COTA but we know those Texas girls know how to have a good time! PS: LOL! "Tattoo to tooth ratio" Gotta remember that one. BHW
If they had designated the Petit Le Mans the WEC round for the U.S., they wouldn't have had to worry about bolstering attendance.
or Sebring.... I really don't understand that move, 100k+ on raceday at Sebring (plus 50 years of tradition), 100k+ for the weekend at PLM (maybe more?) with proximity to the North American headquarters for Porsche, BMW, Mercedes and Nissan, and they choose to go to COTA.
that said I'm working on my plans to go to Austin (my sister lives nearby, so it's two birds one stone)
As Tom Kristensen told me when Audi was testing at Sebring the week before the 12 Hours in March, "It feels weird that we are not racing at Sebring this year". The way the ISC/NASCAR has this TUSCC deal set up, there quite likely are provisions against any sort of competitive entities in the form of other series taking part at any of their tracks going up against TUSCC just as they did when they kicked Indy Car out of all their tracks except Fontana. There was likely less wrangling to get TUSCC on the twin bill at COTA with WEC but they could have just as easily done a deal with Pirelli World Challenge which would create a far more interesting paddock. This is exactly the sort of nonsense monopolies create. BHW

Austin girls have "perfect teeth"..... And tattooed Poison Girls are pretty common these days, at the Broken Spoke (still with "perfect teeth") Ya'll check in, at the "Big Green House"... I guess I should buy the defunct Italian Restaurant, across Congress, and make an International Racing Destination???? Like Le Chantéclair..... Any one out there with experience?? A World Class Hooters, is what we need. The two Swedish girls are back living upstairs....
I just responded to my email. to work....they had ten special slots for Thursday morning??? Anyway I'll be there!
I move to Austin, on COTA weekends. I work at the Track as a "Wayfinder" based out of Turn 1 Entry Gate, and live in a friend's place on South Congress, aka "The big green house".. It's in the F1 threads ...
I love "the big green house" and it's landlords, good people! If I purchase a 2-day GA ticket Bubba do you think there would be room for me? If not I will understand, I had to at least ask. Gregg PS, I tried calling you a week or two ago and both numbers were out of service/changed. You should still have my number I hope but if not will you send me a PM?
With Sterling? OBTW, an ex-partner from the Italian Restaurant, which was called the Treehouse, has opened up an Italian place in Oak Hill out here near my home in SW Austin, called Verona. It's very good.
where would that be? in my experience, challenge car VINs are in the normal "production car" spot, but GTE cars are not.
