Pikes Peak isn't what it was before getting all paved and guardrails and Loeb setting a record no one is going to touch for a long time. Done it twice as a codriver. Mt Washington, Climb to the Clouds, that is where the brave hillclimb now.

I still remember my first drive up the Peak back in the early 1970's and constantly moving around to shift the weight when the drop-off got to close . It may have changed but it is still a great event in my opinion.

Yeah, heard about that. Chatting w/ the bikers at Pikes Peak a year I did it I told one that they were crazy racing up w/o a cage. His response was if he was about to go over edge he could jump off whereas us drivers were strapped in.
