Sounds like a great and cost-effective incentive to get into LMP-style racing if you ask me. But yeah, it's probably meant to be somewhat of a parallel after Formula Le Mans went into the grey.
Total crap LMP3 who wants to see Norma, Tatuus, Oreca and Wolf? We want to see Porsche, Nissan, Ferrari, Mercedes etc Why "mini" lmp1? Costs? Why not GT3 like 24H Nürburgring and Spa...sigh
Nothing against Radical and those Mini LMP cars but not at LM. Who wouldn't like to see GT3 Audi Lambo Bentley Nissan Mercedes and BMW at LM? Or GT4 is even better. just my 2 cents
I don't know but i think and believe of course that this category is pointless. What is teh meaning of doing this. If they want to make it more interesting let's put more GT cars with more 'freedom' in their categories. That would be very interesting.
I'm not sure GT4 has enough aero, and therefore enough mid corner speed, to not be a big hazard to factory P1s. but otherwise I agree....GT3-Am or something like that would be great. I don't see the point of LMP3. then again I don't see the point of PC in ALMS/IMSA, yet that class is a gentleman driver favorite.
The ACO wants two prototype classes in the championships it controls. In WEC, it has LMP1 and LMP2. But LMP1 is too expensive to be in ELMS, ALMS, etc... so the ACO has created LMP3 as a new class for these series to join LMP2. LMP3 may be better than LMPC, in the sense that it isn't a one-make series, but allows different chassis. I still think GTs are more interesting. I wish AUDI, LAMBO, Bentley and others could make cars for GTE at Le Mans and other tracks.
