The first race will be Saturday from Beijing, with about one race a month into next summer. I hadn't been following it too much, but now that it's here and I've read a lot of info on their website, it might be worth watching. Technology for the cars comes from Dallara, McLaren, and Williams, with Renault as technical sponsor. Several former F1 drivers will be driving, as well as sons of former champs like Nelson Piquet and Nicholas Prost, plus a few women drivers. Formula E - Official FIA Formula E Championship
DVR set to record. At least to see what it is all about. Racing is racing. If it is good racing, I don't car how you make the car move.
Despite my occasional rantings to the contrary in F1, I'm a motorsport fan first and foremost. I'll even watch the end of a Nascar race if there's nothing else on. So yeah, I'll set the DVR and give it a watch. I'm not about to get up in the middle of the night to watch it like F1, and I think their 'silence' is going to be an issue, but then F1 cars sound like **** at the moment too...... Cheers, Ian
My DVR is set. We'll see if it's good or not. I find it funny that the FIA outlawed the high noses in F1 and created the crocodiles and then later the ugly noses this year. But Formula E looks like they have normal high noses of yesteryear. Anyway..
+1 I guess the question is can you have good racing without any noise? Guess we're about to find out..... Cheers, Ian
I think Formula e cars actually sound better than this years F1 cars. They sound like space ships taking off. What's not to like? BTW, google the new Harley electric bike and make sure to play one of the videos of it flying down the road. I think you'll like this noise even more.
Those whom are most impressed with the lack of noise from the Formula E cars are all of the cities which will be hosting the events themselves. In the U.S. at least, noise ordinances are slowly relegating racing out of existence as population centers encroach upon permanent race tracks. Not sure if this is the case globally but quite likely so especially in Europe. Cities such as Miami and Long Beach see the lack of noise as a positive as those whom would fight having racing on their city streets point to the noise as one of the main factors in their protests, thus one less bullet in the guns of those who would want street racing banned. Interested to check it out...if it has wheels and goes fast, I'll watch. Of course I'm skeptical about the lack of noise, but if they have a sci fi space ship sound it may grow on us.
Saturday 3:30-500AM on Fox Sports 1 Live from China Sunday 1:00-2:00PM on Fox Sports 1 repeat Monday 12:00-1:00AM on Fox Sports 2 repeat Former F1 drivers in the Forumula E series: Jarno Trulli, Nick Heidfeld, Sebastien Buemi, Bruno Senna, Jaime Alguersuari, Nelson Piquet Jr, Jerome d'Ambrosio, Lucas di Grassi, Karun Chandhok,
I am predicting that Chandhok and Piquet Jr. will collide on the opening lap, creating a blinding plasma blast of electric discharge. Next race EVERYONE will be watching!
Thanks! Seems to be getting more coverage than F1! I guess it's at least another destination for failed F1 guys other than Le Mans! (Just kidding! Honest...) Cheers, Ian
I'm actually looking forward to watching it. They've obviously pulled in some pretty serious funding from somewhere, and the FIA's behind it, so I'll keep an open mind for now..... We should have a "whatcha think of it?" debate after we've seen it. But I suspect the usual "it sucks" posts will appear from those that didn't bother to check it out..... Cheers, Ian
Or, to put it in another perspective, former F-1 drivers who would rather do Formula E than Indy Cars. BHW
I have no idea on who to predict will do well, since they will do all the practice/qualifying/race in one day, but here is the order of results from the last day of testing. The top two are from the same team (e. Adams-Renault, backed by Alain Prost) , so maybe those guys have an edge: Buemi Prost Montagny Senna Bird Di Grassi Chandhok d’Ambrosio Sarrazin Heidfeld Piquet Alguersuari Pic Abt Trulli Servia Garcia Sato Cerruti Legge Link to testing results: Donington Test Day 5 - Official FIA Formula E Championship
That too! All joking aside, there's some pretty reasonable names on the list - That they got to drive an F1 car competitively is a hell of an achievement as we know.... We may "smirk", but they *can* drive some!...... Thanks for that! It'll be interesting to see how it pans out. Cheers, Ian
Can't think of anything less boring, except the drivel from British presenters about their little hambone of course
... I'll be watching intently; paying close attention. But, those over-sized SUV wheels really make the cars look gay. Reducing wheel diameter to 13", Formula E would shave 2 to 5 seconds per lap, and extend range 20 miles. If one of the teams got the bright idea to do that, they'd be unbeatable -- asj.
the wheels are 18 inches, which is hardly considered big anywhere these days except F1. and they're spec so teams can't change the sizes
