I saw this and it looks quite interesting. Brabham name aiming to return to FIA WEC in LMP2 | FIA World Endurance Championship
the open source/fan funded/crowd funded model has been tried before in Indycar, NASCAR, and touring cars (BTCC, I think). trust me, it will not end well.
This has worked well with some land speed record projects in the past. But a WEC or F1 effort is a long term plan.
just to fund one season in a customer car next year, Brabham (by their own admission) needs to raise $8mm, which would put them in the top 10 crowdfunding campaigns ever....List of highest funded crowdfunding projects - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and the economics and speed of cash burn in racing make it almost impossible to continue raising enough capital often/quickly enough to sustain the team. not to mention what a disaster open source car design would be.... there are reasons why the vast majority of racing teams are supported by one entity (manufacturer, rich investor), and why motorsport engineering is such a specialized field. ambitious project by Brabham, but I don't see it working.
I've seen this too: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMO52m9Pfzg]Project Brabham - a new model for motor racing - YouTube[/ame]
