Oh, I thought maybe a trailer that was used to haul cars around the movie set and was once sat in by McQueen was going to be sold by RM for an estimate of $40M.
Guess I should have put "The Man & Le Mans" in quotes but didn't think it was necessary at the time. I, for one, am looking forward to the wide release of this movie. We're in discussion about planning an event around the debut in Miami. BHW
I guess this is the film version of "A French Kiss with Death"?? That book pretty well covered the trials and tribulations of the film, and the filming.
Saw "Lemans" 8 times. Still think it is the best racing movie ever. It certainly kept my attention for all these years.
Only eight times? Think I saw "Le Mans" eight times last year alone! Okay, maybe a slight exaggeration. The first time was in the theatre on opening night in Sebring as a kid. As for the documentary being aligned with the book "French Kiss With Death", quite likely so. I contacted Michael Keyser about it but think he's busy with a couple of new books thus, he's not commented so far. BHW
I don't count the million times on my VHS player. Still watch it today. In fact......I have a planned showing of the film this month. Popcorn?
My only enduring memory of Steve McQueen (in person) was at the 1970 12 Hours of Sebring. There had been a big buzz about McQueen being at Sebring of course. This, and the fact that he teamed with Peter Revson in the Porsche 908, made a lot of news at the time which was not lost on my sister who was a few years my senior. Anyway, we attended the Friday practice and qualifying sessions, and late in the day, when the pits were open again, we could venture down pit road and see the cars and drivers as they were heading back to the paddock. There was a big scrum around McQueen's pits as our group strolled the pit lane which became a tradition as years went by. There was McQueen, holding court, with his leg in a cast, as he had broken his foot racing a motorcycle just a couple of weeks before, crutches at his side and just hanging out on the pit wall. Someone got what turned out to be a decent picture of the scene, can't seem to find that print so it must be among my sister's things. It didn't mean much to me at the time as I was all of six years old but there was just something about this guy being there that set the world afire. Later, when "Le Mans" came out, it made a huge impact and solidified my early interest in the sport. There hasn't been anyone like McQueen since really and the impact the "King of Cool" still has had on our sport cannot be measured. BHW
WOW !!!! You and me both. After "Winning & LeMans" I was off the deep end and sh*t deep into racing. The part that made it for me in the movie was his consouling of another racers wife. His words ring so true for me today." Racing is important to men who do it well.Everything before or after is just waiting".
From the movie's production company, Film Rise... "The film is scheduled for theatrical release on the 13th November (in both LA and NY) with day and date release on VOD, DVD, etc." Good news! BHW
Heard from the movie's production company, FilmRise yesterday. It seems the New York and Los Angeles premieres have been moved to November 27th. Once they see how that goes, they will announce a wider opening release. BHW
On the screen here in Paris, France since Wednesday 4th November (Wednesday here is the day for new movies); only in THREE theaters in Paris, that's all; most friends I have in other french cities say it is not even showed there. No, I have not seen it...yet. Rgds
One gets the feeling that there have been some snags with regard to distribution partners since it's a niche movie. Not surprising to read that it is playing widely in Europe based on the strength of the post-Cannes buzz. Still looking forward to seeing it, eventually... BHW
So has anyone gone to see it? I was going to last week but got busy. It's showing at one theater in NYC I believe.
I have heard McQueen as something else. A couple of my friends rode the ISDT with him in Spain, and they had some stores about him. Never met him, but heard more than a few stories none of which I'll repeat. Art
From my contact at FilmRise... "Unfortunately, the film will not be opening theatrically in Miami or extending markets at this time". Guess we'll have to wait for Netflix or DVD release. BHW
Amazon lists release date on DVD and Blu-ray as December 1st: Amazon.com: Steve McQueen: The Man & Le Mans: Steve McQueen, Chad McQueen, John Sturges, Gabriel Clarke, John McKenna: Movies & TV
I saw the movie yesterday. I thought it was a bit slow, but extremely well done. However, I never see movies in theaters because I can't sit still that long. It is a great movie to watch at home.
