The 17 year old son of Nelson Piquet crashes heavily In Brazilian Porsche GT3 Cup race. Notice the amount of fuel flying out of the car. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5b9poxbWXOc BHW
Did you see his face afterwards? It got pretty rough in that car. Looked like he had an argument with Mike tyson....
They state tudo assolutamente bem, he is absolutely fine. While it may look spectacular this is one of those crashes like Michael Andretti in Indycar at mid Ohio 10-15 years back, lots of rolls but if you concentrate on where the driver is in the car each roll and contact was low G impact, much better than say an Adam Petty in Nascar at Loudun (fatal) slower speed but sudden stop. Still a nasty few minutes for Nelson waiting for news of his son... MS
Barton....I suspect that the spray of fluid is coolant, not fuel. Of bigger concern is the casual nature of the crew that showed up to assist the driver and the length of time that it took to get the door open....with a crowbar. If it had been fuel, I suspect the outcome would have been much worse.
+1000 I can't understand how the door could be that hard to open. My cars have basically just fake doors on both race cars that can be pulled open very easily. They have zero structural integrity and they are held closed by a very small metal clip. I thought almost all race cars were the same as far as doors.
given the damage to the quarter panel/door jamb below the B-pillar, my guess is the latch was bent and forced shut.
I am sure you are correct. I just find it strange at least to me that the door is strong enough in a racecar to need a crow bar and still be that difficult to open. My corvette racecar would not have had a door left on it because it is nothing but the outside fiberglass skin. Maybe my car is just cheap but I thought everyone gutted the doors on race cars. The door bars are what I count on to save me, so my door is really nothing but a wind barrier that I could yank open with one hand if I needed too.
true. I'm sure they could have peeled the door off by prying on the hinges on the leading edge. target fixation by the marshals perhaps.
............just did not look like he had that much speed when he hit the other car, just prior to that one hitting him. Glad he looks so good.
