Here are a few photos from this weekends IMSA race at Elkhart Lake. Hope you enjoy them. First pictures are the class winners. This place is much easier to take pictures at then either Sebring or Daytona, although I love both those tracks also. Daytona has it's banking and Sebring great history. Up close and personal! Thank you for sharing these great pictures here! Excellent!!! Bogus penalty called on the Corvette because the Porsche was trying too hard and ended up in the litter..
He moved right and left. I don't think the move to the left was to take the Porsche out on purpose but that move earned him the penalty IMO. Did the BMW get a penalty for the move on the #4?
Forgot the BMW GTLM's, to be replaced next year with a new car. Never really liked these battleships as race cars, but they are fast just like the Bentley's in the Pirelli Challenge. The Bentley even won last month at RA(pictured) with a driver from Hong Kong who learned the track on a video game. I was very happy to see someone other than a Caddy with yesterday. I was really hoping the 85 would get a win, but their strategy didn't work out. I saw the Bentley's run at VIR in PWC earlier this year. I love them. Why does BMW run the M6 instead of an M4?
Nice pics! Did you camp out? I have wondered if you can actually see the race from your tent as you can at Road Atlanta in some places?
I only go for one day normally. Yes you can see the race from the camping areas perfectly. This place is so big I go and wait for the cars to come by just before or after the sessions. The crowds are all trackside. Sebring and Daytona you can do that, but not as well as here. Laguna Seca is also not bad for photos. Petite Lemans is to crowded, and the track is not as big. I have only gone one time, and that was the first Petite back in 1997 or 1998 if I remember correctly, and that was because Porsche brought the TWR cars to that race. I think it's all marketing for BMW, atleast that's what I was told by the team. They don't like the big M6 as good either. The new M8 also looks as big as a truck, but we will see.
By the way, VIR looks like a nice up close track. Never been, but from the photos it looks good. Circuit of America is one of the new style tracks wich are not fan friendly. I found the INDY F1 track the same way, very hard to take photos without a photographers pass.
VIR is a great place for photos. It is hilly so you often have angles without having a fence in your way. It is also a pretty big track so it doesn't get super crowded. The only downside is there is no stands or viewing on the front straight or turn 1, which is where a lot of the action is. Below are are few pics from that race. Lots of great viewing angles. That GTD class was a humdinger. with the Turner BMW winning by about 5 seconds, but you could have thrown a blanket over 2nd thru 6th, with cars from five different makes, Porsche, Audi, Mercedes, Ferrari and Lamborghini, running nose to tail!

Like every race, maybe? Or even during a weekend? Guy Incognito is usually up on these things, so hope he can clue us in on 2017 BOP.. I think the Ford GT got boosted for RA...and they won. (Not so)Funny how that works.

6.4.1. IMSA may release Balance of Performance adjustments at any time during the season. 6.4.2. All adjustments take effect seven (7) days after publication except in the case of Events on consecutive weekends. Not so many years ago, BOP adjustments were 2x/year. It's a spectacle for sure, but it ain't the kind of 'racing' I prefer.
You're the choir singing to the preacher on both counts. If you've read any of my posts, you'd have about a 50/50 shot of reading (to the chagrin of many on F-Chat) my disdain for BoPing, one make, opening wings, etc. etc. etc. for the sake of "exciting" shows; "leveling" the playing field. A set of rules, choose your weapon, build it, race it, develop it, and race it some more 'til you win. Then, and only then do, you deserve to win. Otherwise 'may as well just bring back the IROC series; let some one build all the cars, and draw your car just before racetime.
