I will in the next few weeks be getting my 77 930 back from my mechanic, its been almost 3 years since i drove it I really miss it, its viper green metallic has SC cams, bored out throttle body euro fuel distributor, headers, aluminum racing clutch flywheel, sport exhaust, K27, 1bar spring, LSD, motor should be around 450+ hp in a light 2500 lb car, winter is coming and these are great winter driving cars as we know

    Lets see some pics

my 930...87 marine blue w/ silver (light grey). bought her w/ 18k orig miles (essentially a new car) and promptly sent it to andial and asked them to make it really fast!

they did not disappoint!!! the car remains stock appearing as it would be a shame to mess with the perfect porsche!!! and it is simply motorcycle fast @ 1.0 bar!!!

my opinion but i consider the 930 one of the most important sportscars of all time. along with the 427 cobra sc, there are few others that can be put in that category.

Thanks...I have always loved 930s. The new turbos just do not do anything for me....How quickly these older cars can gain ground is very deceiving and they were the first cars with "proper" brakes. One of the easiest cars to work on as well.
Jeff...be careful...that thing is going to be a monster!

I'm with all of you...been in and out of 4 930's over the past 30 years....LOVE THEM!

my last two...black one is a '79, red one an '86, also had a '76 in silver and an '87 in granite green metallic

the '79 really was the fastest or at least it always felt that way!

speaking of 930's...I have thought about 'wrestling' that black '79 back from it's current owner. What are you 930 aficionado's opinions of year vs. year and of that particular car - has about 60K original miles and is really SWEEEEEEET!!! any comments on current value (taking into consideration the world economic meltdown, where might prices bottom at?)...respect everyone's opinion as always..

I still own a '79 911SC...which is probably the most reliable road going Porsche ever built...The Turbo version is just as good...you have to be really careful of the turbo leg on a '79...had the reputation of being a widow maker...I am not sure of the value of a '79 930 but I would imagine with that low of miles it could be $80k-100K...there are not that many left. I bought my '88 black 930 for like $40k and sold it after a year for $60k.

    MNG....

Well.....I do this for a living.......sell Porsches that is.....in my 19th year at it.....sold over 1,100 from 1989 until now. Here's my two cents......I am a huge 930 fan, owned several and sold about 100.

    1976-1977 930......Low $20K - High $40K
    1978-1982 930......Low $25K - High $45K
    1986-1988 930......Low $30K - High $60K
    1989-1989 930......Low $30K - High $65K

Add 10-30% for a factory slantnose depending on condition. Add 10% for a steel conversion that is done right. All figures in USD and assuming mileage does not exceed 50K miles at the low end and does not exceed 30K miles at the high end.......and.......the cars in question need NOTHING....no accidents. Paintwork OK and expected due to age.

These cars adjusted downward $10K about 6 months ago.......but have been kinda firm for a decade. As usual, paint to sample cars in unique colors on an M505 slantnose with interesting ownership histories can reach $80-90K with 10K< miles.

In the long run, you cannot lose a dime on a 930. Long run being from five to ten years time. In the short term, prices (may) dip to what they were five years ago - perhaps even worse ? This will NOT be of much concern to the typical 930 owner. It will be of concern to the owner of a stock queen - only in the short term. It will be a problem, for the expensive exotics. In other words, you will most likely see nice 400K 275 GTB/4 autos for sale (over the next two-three years) etc...

The only way to lose long term on a 930, is by taking a stock queen and modifying it and putting on miles. If you buy a queen, you can only drive it once a month - or less. If you want to drive it, buy a nice 50,000 mile car.

Daily driver(sometimes), wife's driver (sometimes), grocery-getter, school bus, it does it all.

Built August the 29th 1975, three full months before USA 930 production began, the only known USA prototype extant. Used by the Porsche factory for road testing by the legendary Jurgen Barth and in the official Porsche 930 1976 model year brochure. Also used for the USA 930 launch late 1975 where it was driven by the late (great) Al Holbert. Works tuned engine and RSR brakes (as per all Pre-series 930s), no radio. In its exact production spec (no mods). Porsche AG factory documentation by Olaf Lang confirming the car's status, and correspondence between myself and Jurgen Barth on file. Porsche certification.

Oak metallic green, tartan fabric (grandma's horrible drapes!), brown leather is original spec. Fully restored.

I have owned other Turbo Carreras and this one flies by comparison. RSR brakes useless when cold. No muffler to speak of so snap-crackle-pop is a bit obnoxious around town but produces silly grins on kids faces.

This Senior Citizen (33 years young) is the oldest USA-spec road-going Porsche Turbo of any kind in the country so if you see her give her a honk will you?

Thanks for the love on the plaid. I feel like I need to operate this car with period platform shoes! Personally I like the plaid but I must confess I do get some strange looks at gas stations... its official Porsche name is "Black Watch Tartan (2AC)", one of 3 tartan variants available at the period for 930. Edmond Russell in England (renowned Porsche racing specialist) had one last OEM roll left over from 1975 when we came to restore. I made him an offer he apparently couldn't refuse...

Picture taken at Grand Touring Cars Phoenix, AZ 1976. Copyright Steve Rosa. Newly hired Bob Wallace and 17 year old Steve Rosa were sent to pick up this early delivery USA 930 at Johnson-Bozzani Porsche. Much to the suprise of Steve and the employees of the Porsche dealership Mr. Wallace tossed the Turbo keys to Steve and said "here you drive it back". 1974 Countach LP400 #1120036 is behind the Porsche.
