Just sold my 996. Looking to buy either a 997.1 GT3 RS or 997.2 GT3. Conflicted on which way to go. Anyone here who has driven both and can give me a true, personal experience comparison? Thanks.
I've driven only the .1 and its a great car to buy, the .2 had or has more factory flaws/recalls. There is a recall of the centre lock wheels.
The .2 GT3 has a lot going for it. Not the mezger engine but it seems to be the only GT car not going crazy on resale right now.
Those .1 look rather nice when de-stickered... Yes please... I read the recent Car Magazine's 50 years of 911 article. Included that 70's RS and several other significant 911s, including the 997 GT3. ******SPOILER****** (the 997.1 GT3 won the best drivers 911 of all time - no surprise here, really) Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Well, after driving the 997.2 GT3 and .1 RS, it looks like I'm going with .2 GT3. True, a .2 RS would be the best but I can't swing that financially. Spoke to a Porsche race shop owner who felt the .2 gt3 was a siginificant step forward from the .1, even the RS. Being honest with myself, I will likely drive more street than track anyway. The .2 will have a 2 year CPO warranty and just felt more solid/ refined and new. It's an amazing dilemma to have in life and we are lucky to be in such a position to even ponder these choices. I'm looking forward to picking up the car next week.
completely agree with your choice. i bought a .1rs and was so unimpressed that i did not buy a .2rs. which after driving the .2 i much regretted. .2 is a much better car
Here she is!!! Dynamic cornering lights, GT2 seats, red Scroth Harnesses good till 2015, Red seat belts, Roll bar with factory attachment points, full front clear bra, Sharkwerks center muffler delete, light window tint, brand new Pirelli Pzeros. 6500 miles with all recalls (including Hubs/centerlocks) completed. CPO for 2 years. Most amazing handling car I have ever driven!!! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Engine - 3.8 vs. 3.6 (power increased, possible .2 is less likely to blow a cooling fitting) Centerlocks vs. 5 lug wheels Suspension mods for .2 Revised front and rear fascias, rear wing. Sig improved downforce Minor change to steering wheel appearance. Not sure if this is all but significant differences and reflected in current prices.
+1 I couldn't have said it better myself, owned a 997.1 and 997.2 and the .2 is far better in many respects. By the way Jordan congrats and use it in the best of health. She is a real beauty.
So is the "next best" 997 GT3 a '997.2 GT3 RS'? The"best" being the '997 GT3 RS 4.0'. If I'm in the market for a '997.2 GT3 RS', what model year(s) are in play, 2010 and 2011? Thanks, DL
I see 2010 - 2011 GT3 (non-RS) prices from $89 to $119k based on mileage and options. They are touted as the last manual tranny Porsche 911.
RS prices...start around $130 for a tracked car needing love on up. A nice low miles 10/11 is going to be in the mid $100s. Dealers are asking typically $150k+...Byers in Columbus Ohio always has a decent crop of cars..with appropriate asking prices.
