I found this really interesting Go Kart on Craigslist and obtained it last week. Found it in a garage sitting for almost 20 yrs. Looking forward to restoring it but am having difficulty finding information on it. A search turns up Porsche 936JR's but those seem to be a newer different version of the one that I have. Restored the 936JR's fetch low 20K's so its not a joke. I'll be starting the dis-assembly next week and locating a body shop for the body resto. I'm going to do the Martini Racing Team Colors. If anyone has or knows of a source of information on this vehicle I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks. Trying to get someone interested in doing the body has not been fun. They don't get it. Visited some Custom Hot Rod paint shops and all I get is attitude. I'll find the right guy.
I know a guy that would love to do this. His name is Rick "The Arsonist" Bacon (because of his flame work not penchant for burning things) He just moved back out to Cali. PM me and I'll send you his contact info.
There was a 936 go-kart with Jules livery floating around for a while. It was at a dealer in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida for a long time and the last time I saw it, it was on the website of a dealer in Europe. BHW
Yes I have seen and read most of the articles on the Jules car. One sold at Mecum Monterey last year for $22K. I just visited a boat repair guy and hes quoting me $5K to repaint it to Martini Livery. The body doesn't really need that much repair. It's in great shape. Going to get on to the chassis tomorrow and do some removal. I'll try to post some pics if they are interesting enough.
Started to take the chassis apart and have included a few pictures of some of the interesting features of this chassis. Looking more closely at the body I find that it has been coated with Rhino Liner. Great...... but the good thing is that it isn't really stuck on the fiberglass that well. My thumbnail can get it peeling in small strips. I will fabricate a dull tipped scraper and hand peel the coating off before I go out and get paint quotes. Focusing on the chassis right now. Contact this fellow. Supposedly his uncle in Poland built them. Contact Info The body is certainly 936 JR...the chassis, hmmmm. Is there a clutch?
No clutch. Centrifugal on the B&S vertical driveshaft. Belt driving the input shaft on the Peerless gearbox. The shift lever has a "T" bar that you can grip with your fingers and this allows you to shift the lever through what seems like three positions. Not sure its a "936JR" as those were copies of the 936/81 racecar. My body appears to be the 936/77 copy. Thanks for the lead I will inquire with them and see if they respond.

Trying to get the frame ready for weld repair, reattaching the front end, and powder coating. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Lukas Nytko contacted me and said he would forward some pictures to see if his uncle in Poland built this replica. I know that they built the 936 Junior but not sure about this one. Can't wait to see his reply and hoping that he has some history on this one.
The painstaking process of stripping the old paint off of the body has begun. The PO sprayed it with rhino liner for some bonehead reason. Wierd, the paint is rippled and it never hardens and feels kind of sticky. I tried several mechanical methods to strip off the liner paint but is difficult to control. The best method as always is doing it by hand. I found a mini plane scraper form Lowes for $9 and with the blade adjusted to the slightest scraping seems to work just fine. By pulling it I can control the force I use to scrape the gooey stuff off. Patience will be the key so that I don't cut into the fiberglass. It will be unavoidable but I think I can limit the damage. I don't think that it's the WD40 as much as it is picking the right tool. The WD just makes it a little bit more messy and kinda slippery. I am using a thin flexible cheap putty knife that has a dull edge and radiused corners so it doesn't dig in. Going much faster. It appears that they sprayed a coat of gloss black over the rhino stuff that makes a shell. Bottom picture shows typical patches that are coming off. I will never mess with rhino liner ! EVER ! Scrapped patch. Different areas of the body have different thicknesses too ! Ughhhhhhhh !!!!!!!!! That's why you see my test scrapes on the body. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Not a chance I want to take given its GRP underneath. I noticed that the rhino softened up during the day under the intense sun we have been having here in SoCal and it scrapes off easier. I used a heat gun on low setting and warmed up an area that seemed to scrape easier with the putty blade. It's just going to be a pain in the ass and I've accepted that and will just get on with it. Weekend is much cooler and hopefully I will get most of it done. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Mr Nytko just contacted me and said that his Uncle reviewed the pictures and doesn't believe that they built this one. Its a 936/77 body copy and the one that they built was a 936/81. I have not found any information on this Kart at all thus far and I am posted on four sites that I belong too.
Pretty much done with stripping. Just a little left in the cockpit. Was approached by a major Porsche collector her in Los Angeles about buying it for his collection. It may never get to auction. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Just emptied the trash can which seemed to contained at least 10 pounds of rhino liner. Never want to do that again. Think I've got about 18 hours in the stripping so far. Next up is to figure how to get the residual rhino off with sanding while I repair several areas that have cracked fiberglass. The tail lights also need to be repaired as the PO made them oval with bondo. Image Unavailable, Please Login
