The entry-level Porsche is dead. In an interview with Automotive News, Porsche North America CEO Detlev von Platen said, “You won’t see anything lower than the current Boxster model.” Porsche is now taking a different strategy. Perhaps the firm doesn’t want to further dilute its image, which is increasingly being shaped by its SUV models, the Cayenne and the Macan.

Dilute it's image... Really? There are now more Cyannes sold the United States than 911's.

    Hey Porsche... dilute this!

being shaped by suv models? sad...it was once shaped by winning race cars. oh well...life goes on or passes us by.

Macan is built on the same chassis as Audi Q5 which is probably built on the same chassis as a VW (Tiguan? not sure about this).

I am not favorably impressed with Porsche's lack of innovation nowadays.

“Our entry model is our pre-owned program.”

Sounds like taking a page out of the old Ferrari play book.

Why are the Cayman and Boxster not considered entry level?

Cayenne and Touraeg are the same chassis (Q7 is a stretched version thereof)

Macan and Audi Q5 are the same chassis.

The last " entry level" Porshe I bought had a VW engine and four lug bolts... And it wasn't all that cheap ( price wise )

Has there truly been an entry-level Porsche since the 914? Entry-level meaning being within the means of most drivers. Even the 924 and 944 models were fairly pricey when new.

I have been a long time Porsche enthusiast and I have to admit that Porsche is pricing me out of their new car market. They are great cars with wonderful performance etc but the prices are just outrageous. I was at the dealer last weekend and 205k for a 911 turbo is just over the top. I have never liked the corvette but they are winning me over with the new Z06. Even the ZL1 Camaro is a great car.

nearly $100k for a well-equipped Cayenne S is similarly ridiculous.

who buys a $100k family SUV? well, lots of people, apparently. I'm just not sure who they are/what their demographic is.

I suspect a lot of those go out on a lease.

    me too.

but who's paying a $1500+ lease payment on a family SUV?

    money's gotta come from somewhere...

(This is universal to all luxury brands, not just Porsche)

Agree. The guy I purchased my 911 from was selling it to buy a c5 zo6; never a vette lover but damn if they havent upped their game since the c5 with their racing program, etc. I will take a look at a vette in the foreseeable future.
