My brother is shopping for a sub-$10K car, and has settled on the 986 Boxster. There is a nice looking one for sale on the PCA website, but you have to be a member to view the seller's contact info. Is there anyone who could check and maybe PM me the contact info? I'm too cheap to spend $40 on a guest membership just to perhaps find out the car is already sold or had a family of skunks die in the trunk! Thanks!

Perhaps check Rennlist, Cars.com etc. to see if car is cross listed on another site?

  3. It looks active, I'll send you his number.

Thanks guys! I got near-simultaneous PM's from multiple people. I will call the seller tomorrow and see what I can find out on the car. Hopefully we can add a Porsche to the family soon!

That would be an excellent time to join PCA... :)

Track days here we come! (Hopefully).

The PCA in our area is fairly active I believe, so I will probably buy my brother a membership as a "new car present" if he pulls the trigger on a boxster. And then he can invite me to track days! ;)

    :)

hope it works out! that's a ridiculous price for a Boxster if it checks out.

if he's going to do serious track use (more than a few days a year, and/or with R-comps or slicks), I'd highly recommend doing the IMS/RMS/AOS upgrades and maybe putting in an Accusump.

The car in question had a new clutch done at 55K miles (now 88), so hopefully some of that was addressed at that time. Surely they would have at least put in the upgraded RMS, huh? Isn't that pretty standard practice now?

Oh, I'm still learning my Porsche acronyms...what is this AOS you speak of? :D

Will update everyone after we talk to the seller.

    AOS= air oil separator

the upgrade on the 996 is to put in the Motorsport AOS for track use; not sure if that applies to the Boxster or not.

Just wanted to update this thread. My brother ended up buying a different car, found this 2001 about three hours away. It's in decent shape, could use a few interior and exterior touch ups as could any 13 year old car. Bought at significant discount due to it needing a new clutch. So we towed it home today, and will be putting in a new clutch, upgraded IMS bearing, new rear main seal, and may get fancy with new exhaust and headlights while we're at it. It looks good next to the Italians! :)

CS belongs to Coledoggy. He is getting some renovation work done on his garage and needed a place for his CS to shack up.

And yeah, we will tackle the boxster work. I'm sure I will have questions as we go! At least there is plenty of booze located just upstairs from the work area. ;)

OK, thought that was his CS :)

load up on Warsteiner and Jagermeister, you'll need it working on a Boxster.

or recruit your kids...small hands will come in....uhhh...handy.

Nice find Nolan! Great cars, the boxster.

I'll be over to return the clutch favor, just tell me when.

Btw, it's time to run those horses!

Todd, Mike came by with his turbo to check out the garage today, he's itching to ride this weekend too. Maybe Sunday?

I figure before too much longer we will be the European clutch experts of all Mississippi.

Sunday ride is fine by me, I saw Mike yesterday too. I was pulled over talking to Max in his gt3, I was in the 355. It was car nirvana for our little town for a second.

His boxster has 105 on it, or thereabouts.

Got most disassembly done today, got stuck when I didn't have the right size hex wrench to remove axles from transmission. The bright side is, now I have a reason to go tool shopping tomorrow!

Turns out this story has a happy ending. We got everything back together last weekend, just in time for some great top-down weather and a trip to our local C&C. Car runs strong and smooth. I am amazed at how solid a 13 year old convertible with 100K miles can feel. Now it just needs a few cosmetic touch ups as he goes and feels up to it. My brother is loving it, I think we now have a life-long Porsche convert on our hands.

Thanks for all the help Porsche guys!

If he plans to buy a Porsche, why not go ahead and join the PCA now?

He already joined, but waited until he bought the car, as he was looking at a couple of non-porsche options as well.
