Wow... the forbidden wall between the 981 and 991, finally breached... Honestly, never thought the marketing department would let this happen.
If I'm remembering correctly, the Carrera S 3.8 block is the same block used in the 991 GT3; the latter is simply heat treated differently. I wonder if/when someone like Ruf or Sharkwerks will make that swap.
GT4 vs. 991 GT3. Will performance gaps be less than price gaps, making the GT4 a 'bargain'? It would be an interesting comparison. And how will/should Porsche manage? GT4 could be supplied with de-tuned power plant, but it can be re-tuned for more power. And for those who lament GT3 was PDK only, this could be deciding factor. Or in the Porsche community, are there '911 guys' and 'Cayman/Boxster guys' with fairly hard lined loyalty? I'm not a Porsche owner, so I don't know.
with a manual this will sell like crazy. When you attend a PCA event the car of choice isn't a 911....its a Cayman.
I would suggest this is competition for all the hot American iron rolling out....z28, z06 etc. A fun weekend car for around $100k.
Maybe, but with the GT3 version of PDK manual, a lighter and naturally more balanced GT4 seems like it would be knocking (hard) on the the GT3's door. I wonder how much of the electronic wizardry could be deleted due to the better weight distribution. Three-pedal manual would sacrifice performance, but makes it a sort of spiritual successor to the Lotus Exige. This is the biggest news out of Porsche years, IMHO.
I am going to be upset if it does not come in manual (which is rumored). Watch all last generation manual transmission Porsches rise in value.
Wow, get a silver one and name it 'Lil' Bastard!' Talked a friend of mine out of a Cayman S as he was complaining about wanting more performance. Didn't know Porsche would produce a GT4 version so soon. This should cure his ails.
