Bruce Meyer? Anyone? I mean this would most definitely fit within his collection of cars that "won all the right races"

The 1983 overall winning 956 being auctioned at Gooding was driven by Hurley Haywood,
Vern Schuppan and the late Al Holbert in one of the more interesting finishes in
    Le Mans history.

Amazing that the car keeps changing hands as it really should be in the Porsche Museum
    in Stuttgart.

This car was at the 2007 Amelia auction and reserve was not met at $2 million. I was surprised then it got so little considering how well it performed in 1982 and then won in 1983. I love this car and wish I could afford it...

Sold for $9,200,000 ($10,120,000 all in).

I still can't believe the bidding stopped back in 2007 in Arizona (I incorrectly stated Amelia before) at $2mm with a no sale. Now it sells for 5x as much...
