Insane? My friend in the charlotte area just sold one for $400k and had a similar offer for his favorite green 76. He thinks tge offer on the green was light.
there are more than a few $400k 993 turbos on the market right now (turbo S/x50 cars), so the same or more for a 930 is reasonable in this market.
No affiliation - One of the nicest 3.0's I've ever seen. Everything seems to be there, and everything that's there is nice!
Yes, complete insanity. I've watched the meteroic rise of these cars over the past few years. I agree the cars were undervalued but $400k for a 930 turbo? I thought it was lunacy when they hit the $200k mark.
The "in this market" part says it all. It's an insane amount of money for what it is and in relation to other vehicles; new and old.
I agree the market is out of whack right now. But, the old stuff feels like better value for money in some ways. I wouldn't pay anywhere near $300K for a 930, but seems like "more car" than the 991, IMHO. More quality, more style, more mechanical satisfaction, less complexity. Is it worth more than a 991 Turbo? I think so. No one builds cars like this anymore - even Porsche.
sellers market and marshall seems to do a good job of trying to set the illusion of a super strong market.... not sure if anything they have offered sells.
Haggerty is way off... everyone on the porsche boards has talked about it... Tons of nice 1980's 930's for sale at $70k-90 k and not selling. If a number #3 driver is $180,000, these cars should have sold already... Now, 1970's 930's... maybe...
+ 1 There are many 3.0 930s available around $150k (and some for substantially less) that are on the market for months and are not selling. That's telling. Meanwhile this gold 3.0 is the car that was a no-sale $ 260,000 @ multiple venues http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/144179761-post4644.html and it speaks to the state of the market when cars bounce from dealer-to-dealer at ever-increasing prices based on nothing more than wishful thinking. Nice car though.
So Joe, how the heck did haggerty come up with their info? I have an 88 930 driver. Per haggerty a #4 parts car is $150,000... Yet, most 88 drivers seem to sell below $100k. Many drivers listed at $80,000 or so... I really wish my car were worth $200k... Any buyers?
Agreed, very nice car - but interesting that it was a no sale at $260k - it's good to know that I'm sane.
There are tons of nice (insert European sports car marque here)'s for sale at (insert wildly optimistic price here) and not selling.
MG is always in the stratosphere anyways, but as others have mentioned before, they tend to price where they see the market heading.
Lets see... a hand formed aluminum, tube frame Ferrari 512 Boxer at 400K or a mass produced stamped steel 930 at 400K. Decisions decisions...
The new buyer can only park the car and look at it and keep it as-is for the next owner. Rinse and repeat.
3.0 930s will soon command 3xs that of a 512 boxer. I also believe 3.0 930s were built in similar numbers. They made 2,323 512 berlinetta boxers. The 930 is a icon. The 512 is a cool 1970s supercar.
