At the Geneva show, Ruf presented an all new car. It's based on a highly modified 993 chassis (not a 964 chassis as stated in the article) with extended wheelbase by 70mm (50mm rear, 20mm front) bringing it to the same as a 997. When you see it in person, the new longer wheelbase looks natural and looks better proportioned than the original shorter wheelbase. Overall length is unchanged and remains the same as a G model or 964. Body design is inspired by the original Ruf CTR1. Body has extensive use of carbon fiber with optional roof structure in carbon as well. Of note is the engine isn't air-cooled. It is in fact the Mezger water-cooled GT3 unit enlarged to 4.2 liters normally aspirated, 525hp. Gearbox is also the 6-speed manual GT3 based. This is really the best of all worlds, the latest technology in the more compact traditional body. A totally analog super car you can use every day. It is the Tangerine car:

RUF is chasing the market that Singer created. Good for them.

Love it! I'm really glad with what Ruf brought last year with the Targa Florio and this week's debuts as well. I'd rather have a Ruf than a marked up GT3 RS.

The whole Singer / Ruf / retro hyper 911 market is kind of goofy to me.
I like the concept its just the coinage that's a little baffling.

If you take into account that the two cars have carbon fibre body panels, ceramic brakes, the Metzger engine in its highest state of tune and are totally hand built the price is not baffling at all.

I have the spiritual father of these cars, a red CTR where RUF and the first owner who owned a Kevlar factory experimented with Kevlar body panels. It remained a one off as the price of the panels in 1988 was prohibitive.

In comparison the new cars offer a very similar driving experience (with much improved suspension, brakes and tires), are very rare, also safer and still significantly cheaper than the CTR.

My CTR will blow the doors off most most 911 turbos. Not from standstill because of launch control, but from a rolling start at 60 Mph it will run away. We had it on a dyno and it pulls over 550 DIN horsepower! With a full tank of gas 1210 KG. The chirping of the wastegate when you change gears is unparalleled except for the P1 which does the same.

This is not a Singer or any other retro maker its the real deal by the company that beat the 959, the f40 and the Jaguar In 1987/88. Tested by Paul Frere for a US car magazine. The CTR went 342 Kmh.

RUF have always been known for quality and that has a price.

Ruf has chosen to go this route because the new cars are getting way too big, complex and heavy. He loves the compact size, simplicity and fantastic visibility of the original CTR. He has a true passion for the Mezger flat sixes (water and air cooled). The CSR4.2 993 chassis is a great foundation to develop. It's a huge achievement to stretch the wheelbase and not the overall length. Combine this with a diet of carbon fiber makes for a compelling car. Rufs are designed for everyday usability, comfort and purpose.

Agreed...the 991 is a beautiful car, but I can't get over how large it is.
