3 similar cars are existing, all 3 928 CS prototypes, given to the works drivers. Mine was the H. J. Stuck car, all in white and blue leather inside. Great cars ...
Excellent ! What was it like to drive ? Here in Britain top 928's go for between £50K - £60K GBP. I'm sure the provenance and rarity of the CS adds a natural premium to collectors. What tweaks etc were different to the GT ? I believe the PSD for example was straight out of the 959, also found in the GT.
Pictures and the Story of the "Stuck" car, similar to the Bell car. Pdk?! Developed into tiptronic? The 928gt was the end of the run in 93 or 94 so this was 6 years earlier would appreciate someone here explaining the car. Search only gives german info or non informative thanks
928 CS The Clubsport was a lightened version of the 928 S4 designed for road and track use, and was available in continental Europe and the USA. Porsche had been experimenting with such a car as far back as 1983 and had built prototypes, but it wasnt until 1988 that the Clubsport went on sale. The weight was reduced from 1640kg to 1450kg by way of removing much of the sound-deadening material, fitting a simpler wiring loom, and removing much of the electrical equipment, such as electric seat adjustment (although the power windows remained). In short, the car was stripped of much of its luxuries. The suspension was uprated with 10 percent stiffer front springs and all-round Boge sports dampers. The wheels were forged alloys; 8-inches wide at the front, and 9-inches out back. The engine was essentially the same 5.0-litre S4 unit, but with 1mm higher lift camshafts and a revised ECU. The idle speed was raised to 775rpm and the rev limiter to 6775rpm. Power rose by 10bhp to 330bhp at 6200rpm, while torque remained unchanged but peaked at a higher 4100rpm. A sports exhaust system with twin tailpipes was fitted. The power was fed through a five-speed manual gearbox with a shorter gearlever, though to a limited-slip differential with a 2.73:1 final drive. Capacity: 4957cc Compression ratio: 10.4:1 Maximum Power: 330bhp @ 6200rpm Maximum Torque: 430Nm @ 4100rpm Brakes: Front: 282mm discs; rear: 289mm discs; servo assisted with ABS Suspension: Front: Independent with double wishbone, telescopic dampers with co-axial coil springs, plus anti-roll bar Rear: Independent with lower wishbones, upper transverse link (Porsche-Weissach patent geometry), coil springs, telescopic dampers, plus anti-roll bar Wheels & Tyres: Front: 16x8J. Rear: 16x9J Length: 4470mm Width: 1829mm Weight: >1450kg 928 GT The GT had essentially the same engine as the Clubsport, as well as its wheels, exhaust system and transmission with short-shift gearchange. However, because the Clubsport and SE had been criticised for its hard ride, the GT was fitted with standard suspension and soundproofing. Capacity: 4957cc Compression ratio: 10.4:1 Maximum Power: 330bhp @ 6200rpm Maximum Torque: 430Nm @ 4100rpm Brakes: Front: 282mm discs; rear: 289mm discs; servo assisted with ABS Suspension: Front: Independent with double wishbone, telescopic dampers with co-axial coil springs, plus anti-roll bar Rear: Independent with lower wishbones, upper transverse link (Porsche-Weissach patent geometry), coil springs, telescopic dampers, plus anti-roll bar Wheels & Tyres: Front: 16x8J with 225/50ZR16tyres. Rear: 16x9J with 245/45ZR16tyres Length: 4470mm Width: 1829mm Weight: >1560kg
These are fantastic cars. But I would really like Derek's 924 GTS. He was host driver for Crescent classic a few years ago. He still has his GTS and said it has been his favorite car to own. I would love to pick one up.
Good comparison. Here's another interesting one which I had not seen before Porsche 928 S4 vs Ferrari 328 GTB
Very cool comparison. Back in the early 1990's. My Dads friend and our lawyer had a 328GTS. My Dad had an 1988 S4. I raced the lawyer and both pretty much equal off the line, etc. The big difference. The 328 is more of a sports car, more fun on twisty roads, etc. The lawyer has a place in Whistler, said the Ferrari would be more fun for that drive. Mountain road, so twists all the way. The area the 928 wins is long straight drives at high speeds.
I agree with this S4 + 328 comparison. I would add that the GT feels quite different to an S4, and will easily stick with a 328 through the twists. You can really use it's 50/50 weight distribution
some fine static and in-motion shots from the recent Shark meeting in UK. A pub was involved, naturally https://www.flickr.com/photos/100047767@N07/sets/72157677267419925
