For sale at steve harris I wanted some advice/opinions on the car. Looks great and sounds like its cleaned up, maintained and ready to go. But is it well priced? And is it expensive to maintain (I mean by porsche standard) and what kind of costs are we looking at?

If you can, seek out a 78 or 79 model if you're looking for an early 930. They had 3.3 litre engines up from 3.0 in 1977 models and 1978 was the first year for the intercooler. The 78 and newer models also have an arguably nicer turbo tail installed from factory and many had 16" wheels versus 15" on the earlier cars.

That said, even the 77 is a nice car. They are very robust, but do require more maintance than an SC. Many have noted they are hard on clutches, but driven properly I have seen 60K cars with the original clutch and the disc from factory was suspect to begin with.

If I were in the market for one, I would be looking for a nice 78-79 with the updated clutch, carrera chain tensioners, 16" wheels, an air box update, with a solid service history.

    My .02

    Good luck,
    John

Hi ive got a ROW 1977 930 at quarter of a million kays,

Ive found thet in Late 77 Intercoolers were introduced,, (not many have them)

I believe this adds to longetivety of the engine as the three litres have lower compression then 78 and on.

My opinion is that a 77 930 is just as reliable as any sc, when you think about it the only main difference is the Turbo and as long as its kept in tune youll have many miles and years of enjoyment

There are no 77 3.0 cars with intercoolers from factory.
78 model year started in late 77, and any intercooled 930 from late 77 is a 78 model year 3.3 car with higher compression and everything.

Tiff Needle,& 911uk, say otherwise, they say they were introduced in 1977, but my research suggests that only the last 50 3.0 cars made had them along with the 917 type brakes , these arent the ony discrepancies the last few 3.0 row 930 cars possessed, some came with hand throttles and beefier 78 suspension also,

Post a link and we can help. A PPI is always recommended and can suggest people for that as well.

78/79 930 can be picked up right now for a LOT less than a 76 to 77. They are a bargain if you want a early 930 with early 930 handling and boost delivery. They also have a 930 VIN.

I have a 77 3lt built within the last 20 Row vin numbered cars (Del 16/9/77), no intercooler or 917 brakes. ( Rhd, so no brake booster model)
