Hopefully Carbon/Gerald won't mind me posting the info on this car that is taken off Ferrari Market Letter. Taken from "The Drug Lord's Ferraris" by Rick Carey:

365 GTB/4, S/N 16553. Red with beige leather. Visually maintained, largely original, 3- condition. Hammered sold at $59,603 plus commission = final price $68,543. Borranis, silver painted nose panel. Mostly original and in pretty good overall condition but requiring work to overcome the effects of age and 7+ years storage waiting for the sale. This is not a bargain; it's a tired Daytona that needs comprehensive attention. For that, it's a fair price.

an earlier post said it was burgundy/tan, this seems to be that color, but the earlier post also insinuated that the car was repainted red...interestingly since it was in Euroipe, they removed the sidemarkers required in the US from the rear fenders.

You've been researching it for how long now....several years.....and you still haven't found a real serial number stamping or a VIN plate yet????? Sorry Jim, I'm not a believer. What's gone is gone forever and all the researching and publicity won't ever bring it back. (But hasn't this all been covered before in a dozen different threads.) We now return to our regularly scheduled Daytona thread.

Why did they paint the fronts silver?

I've seen a couple done, but originally assumed they were simply unpainted headlamp pods and an ali panel in the middle after the US DOT decreed that the plexi lamps were not allowed.

    But those ones look painted.

Also, burgundy tends to get classed as "red" I think - certainly does on UK registration documents. I'm sure there were 3 or 4 reds at least used on Daytonas.

    Is that true?

Design genius like Pinin can be at times, and then they go and do something like that!

Haven't pop up lights been banned now in the US?

    Hi Randy,

Your Daytona was owned here in the Netherlands by Charles Zwolman. He had a large car collection of Ferrari´s, Maserati´s Lamborghini´s etc, but all of these cars were confiscated by the Dutch Federals, and a lot of these cars where auctioned by the Dutch Coverment on July 3, 2001
Among these cars was s/n 16553, sold for NLG 157.000, wich would be about euro 71.000 (not much..) Car was burgundy with a tan interior.
It looks like the frontsection was painted white, wich gave it a plexi nose look,
but s/n 16553 must be a pop-up car for sure.
    What color is it now?

    Best regards,
    Marcel

Yes, you're right: it's the Meera S. It was also part of the Zwolsman collection. After the auction it stayed in Holland for a while and then went to Florida.

Edvar... The Meera S was about a half hour from here a few months ago... Rumor had it that the car was going to the Middle East...

I recently (couple months ago, I think) saw this car in Ft. Lauderdale. Very strange car indeed. It has cameras instead of a rear view mirror, windshield wipers on the door windows...quite unique.

Yes, it does...! A camera mounted on the inside, at the top of the rear wind shield... and, for the driver, a little screen around where one would normally expect a glove compartment... Very peculiar indeed...

Strange that the Ferrari with the automatic used the same automatic shifter that was used in mid sixties Chevy Impalas, Caprices, and Novas. Probably because they used a Chevy Turbo 400 transmission. But that shifter looks weird in a Ferrari after using one just like it in my old '66 Chevy Caprice. And once again may I note that a giant parking brake lever on the center console of a Ferrari is about as attractive as a giant lever on a farm tractor. Who says that Ferrari didn't steal any ideas from Lamborghini, maker of farm tractors.

Arlie, i think it's just the angle of the picture that makes the E brake SEEM like it's in the middle; i don't really believe it is...

...Also, you shouldn't begin a sentence with the word 'and'. :)

ALSO, you're probably right, maybe not exactly in the middle, but it's still "up topside". It would seem to me that putting a foot type parking brake down under the dash would make for more elbow room by getting it out of the way. (But then if it's an automatic, you're not shifting much anyway so there's no problem having a giant ugly parking brake stalk growing up from the console area.) :)
