IT WAS NOT BEN'S FAULT!!! THE ORGANIZER HAD PICKED THE 150MPH ZONE AS THE ENTRANCE TO THE TRACK AND THE F-CAR DRIVER PULLED IN FRONT OF HIM NEAR THE END OF THE STRAGHT. THERE WERE NO CORNER WORKS AND NO FLAGS!!! HE TRIED TO AVOID HIM AND SPUN OUT AND HIT THE WALL AT NEARLY THAT SPEED. The passenger died instantly on impact. Ben was airlifted to the hospital, but still had a pulse when they took him so PLEASE PRAY FOR HIM AND HIS FAMILY. PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS POST AND DO NOT MAKE THIS INTO A CIRCUS OUT OF RESPECT FOR THE FAMILIES. PLEASE!!!!! I will not be responding to any questions __________________ __________________ Michael 2006 BMW 550 SMG (on order) 2005 Porsche GT3 2004 Porsche Cayenne 2004 Mercedes C230K Last edited by quartermile on 06-04-2005 at 03:02 AM
Oh my god. even though i had no personal relationship with Ben, he was still extremely helpful at the Rennteam forum. My condolenced go to his wife and family. We should plan a commemoration of some sort, either a special Crystal Cove event or something else... R.I.P Ben.
For those that pray, please keep not only Ben, the passenger, and their families in your prayers, but also all of the other drivers who were at the track today. That must have been a terrible thing to witness.
Oh jesus...I don't know what to say. I never really met him but he was always a great guy. I'm just shocked, my condolences to his and the passenger's families. Wow, I'm still in shock...
I'm in shock. It's hauntingly similar to Greg Moore's accident on the same track in '99. Like many, I only knew Ben from his posts. Bless him and the other victim, and their families.
I have met Ben on several occassions, he was a real standup guy, always willing to share his car and passion.... it is a true loss and he has beautiful family. God be with his family. MM
Awful news.. I never met Ben, but I figured I'd bump into him at CC sometime. My condolences to his family and the passenger's family as well. -Chris
God speed Ben. May this be a lesson to all of us. Beyond good health, loving family, warm friendships and deep faith... nothing else matters. Hug your family and friends and keep Ben's family and close friends in your prayers. I am sorry to say this, but this is the exact reason why i have an aversion to CA Speedway... too much concrete for me. Brad
This is absolutely terrible news...I was lucky enough to know Ben from Crystal Cove, the Carlsbad show, and a little bit of e-mail. I thought very highly of him...he was nothing but nice and encouraging to me. I really cant believe it...I feel sick to my stomach right now. Reat in Peace Ben I hate to ask this, but do we know who the passenger is as well? It could have been any one of us in a situation like this...
i only met ben once, very breifly at the symbolic event, but he was always a nice guy thru f-chat, asking me about my SATs and just being a cheerful and pleasant guy. its weird, i talked to him a lot thru this and then finally met him in person less than a month ago. its an odd feeling, having just met him and then this. i pray for what happened today, his family, those at the track, and all the people here on f-chat who knew him or didnt know him. RIP and God Speed Ben
Here is a track map of Cal speedway, I'm having hard time to understand where did he hit the concrete barrier. I raced on that track before and know it prety well but can't think of any layout that will place the barriers on the outside of the track, some accounts of the incident mentioned him hitting the concrete in over 150mph sideways. That is just awful news. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, the passengers family and everyone involved. Godspeed Ben.
