David, you must have seen his daily driver; the light blue one. I think it was a GTB SWB. The GTO was his fun car! Tough choice! They both looked like a lot of fun to me!

David, do you or anyone have pictures of John Cucio's GTO LM. I don't know much about that car, but I saw somewhere that Ferrari only made three of them. Also, I haven't seen Ray since the early '70's the last time I worked for Autodynamics. I just missed Ray last summer at Lime Rock when Sam Posey drove the D7 around the track for a few laps. I hadn't seen that car go for a long long time also! I almost ended up owning the D7. One day at Autodynamics, Ray told me to take all, everything, of the Caldwell D7 to the dump. I started loading up the wing, struts, boxes of up-rights, body moulds and odd bit & pieces, and I started out to the dump. I stopped and asked if I could have all this stuff. Ray thought for a moment and asked me what did I want it for? He changed his mind, " take it all back, we will keep it". I blew it! I should have kept my mouth shut!

William, Ray is retired and living in Utah. He flys his plane every chance he gets. I am glad that he and Sam Posey have burried the hatchet as things were "strained" at best between the two for a long time. Great guy! I worked for him also.
Getting back to the subject at hand, here are two from Watkins Glen in 1961!

I believe that particular car was unique in the fact that the chassis was longer than all the other Rs's due to fitting a different lump. Remember reading somewhere that it was rebuilt to accomodate a bigger engine, but he had his old engine re-installed....memory is a bit vague though

Bertocchi's mention of Rob Walker brings back the memory of meeting him at the airport following the Mexican Grand Prix (in 1967 I believe) where his Cooper-Maserati was driven, as usual, by Jo Siffert. They'd cut off part of the nose cone to allow for more cooling owing to the temperature in Mexico City. He was a gentleman and quite taken by surprise that someone my age would have recognized him. He spoke quite enthusiastically of his racing endeavors.

    Texas!

What is the cable coming from the back of the car to the cockpit all about? A parachute? :)

No apologies necessary. I appreciate you sharing these pictures. It just did look like something was attached to the back bumper. :)

Does anyone have any photographs of the 166/206 P that Scarfiotti ran in the mid sixties. I believe the s/n is 0834.

I would also be interested to see any that have

    0784 - a 246 S

    4561 - 330 GTO

    0738 - 250 TR

I recently saw those cars at Spa and it would be nice to have other shots of those to add to my collection. The keepers of 0834 allowed me to sit in it...one of the first times I ever sat in a Ferrari (Yes, I know its technically a Dino)

    Thanks,

    Patrick

Paul, In 1993 I was contacted by a gentleman named Clive Beachum. He said the he owned the Rob Walker 250 SWB and was looking for photos of the same. If I am not mistaken there is a second car painted in the same scheme and it is often confused with the car in my photo.
I do not know if Mr. Beachum still owns the car.

There were 2 cars with this colour scheme - both owned by Rob Walker (sat on the pit fence in short sleeve jumper and white sleeved shirt talking to Moss) and both driven by Moss. Moss won both 1960 and 1961 Goodwood Tourist Trophy races.
In 1960 it was Ch.2119 and in 1961 Ch.2735. The 1960 car is easily distinguished from the 1961 car because the 1960 car had bumpers fitted. There are, of course, other more subtle variations.

PS - Many thanks to David and others who have contributed fantastic photos and information to this thread - it's the best thread on FChat.

PPS - A side line - Some years ago I produced a limited edition (50 only) hand-made 1:43rd scale model of the 1961 car which was signed by Stirling Moss and Rob Walker. I had to show Stirling the prototype for his approval. He looked it all over, and then said (bear in mind that this is 1:43rd scale) "You've missed the Prancing Horse off the steering wheel"

Yes, that's Clive Beecham's car - he brings it every year to a hospitality day he runs, but hasn't been able to have Sir Stirling drive it on the circuit since 1998 because of the noise restrictions.

There are indeed many differences between the two cars, as seen here at the Festival of Speed in 1995:

    http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/6910/scan00025bu.jpg

The thing that shows that the car in those b/w's is 2735 is the gentle curve to the top of the side window, rather than a kink on 2119.

And, as you say, the 'orse on the wheel is vital on a 1/43, as are the bonnet clips:

I am surprised all the history buffs did not recognize none other than Jim Hall in the first photo. Moss shared the Birdcage with Dan Gurney. He told me that their height difference made the seat positioning interesting.

Does anyone know the guy in this birdcage? Well known mechanic.
